Description rmknox 2012-11-13 22:21:52 UTC
Description of problem: glchess needs me to make its first move

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
gnome 3.2.1 glchess 3.2.1 GNU Chess 5.08

How reproducible:
100%

Steps to Reproduce:
1.start it graphically, make a move, nothng happens
2.
3.

Actual results:nothing

Expected results:it move

Additional info:
if i start graphically it does not respond to my first move

if i start from command line, i make a move, then go to the command line
it shows me its intended move
i return to the graphical interface, make the black move, make my white move
and it then runs normally

for what its worth - on a different f14 machine i have glchess and gnuchess and they work together fine

here is a startup from the command line - to the point where it tells me its intended move

###
for what its worth - this system started as f12 and then preupgrade to f14 and preupgrade to f16

Separate frustration
this is 2nd time I entered this
first time i didnt enter summary
system gave error screen and told me to press back button

my keyboard does not have a back button.
i tried alt left error - returned to start without my stuff

went back to error screen and tries the left arrow shown visually at the top of the browser
same result

I'm happy to particulate in your beta testing but would enjoy it more if I didn't need to deal with "gotchas" like that
Thus Im making a control c copy of this just in case.

just to clarify - to get it to work graphically i do this

go to the command line
type glchess
the graphical version appears
i make my first move on the graphical version
it does not respond
i then return to the command line and see what its intended move is because it displays on the last line
i then go to the graphical version and make its move and my response and it then plays normally without further fiddling

Patch for glchess

This continues to be an issue in Fedora and was reported under component glchess in Bug 700184 and Bug 853728.

I've attached a patch from Gnome bugzilla.

Comment 3 Fedora End Of Life 2013-01-16 17:29:34 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 16 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 16. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora
'version' of '16'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 16's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that
we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 16 is end of life. If you
would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it
against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged to click on
"Clone This Bug" and open it against that version of Fedora.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

The process we are following is described here:
http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/BugZappers/HouseKeeping

Comment 4 Michael Catanzaro 2013-01-17 22:13:38 UTC
This is an exact duplicate of Bug 853728 so it should be closed. I'll comment in Bug 853728.

Comment 5 Fedora End Of Life 2013-02-13 22:13:47 UTC
Fedora 16 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2013-02-12. Fedora 16 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
