Description Florian Weimer 2012-11-16 17:51:00 UTC
On a Lenovo x220 laptop (with an integrated Core 2 graphics controller), the external TFT connected to the DVI port is not blanked before suspend. The screen contents is visible for some time after resume, potentially revealing sensitive information prior to user authentication.

If the system is under heavy load, it is possible that the password prompt appears before suspend, and if the user mistakenly enters the password, the system will suspend in an unlocked state, and will be usable without a password after resume.

This happens with gnome-shell-3.4.1-6.fc17.x86_64.

Comment 1 Florian Weimer 2013-01-17 08:57:46 UTC
With gnome-shell-3.6.2-6.fc18.x86_64, this no longer happens.

Comment 2 Florian Weimer 2013-06-17 09:32:00 UTC
It turns out that the first part at least is still present with gnome-shell-3.8.3-2.fc19.x86_64 (in Classic Mode), this time for the primary screen of the laptop. After resuming, the actual screen contents is visible briefly before the screen lock activates.

Comment 3 Florian Weimer 2013-10-27 11:35:23 UTC
I did some additional experiments and the external screen is required to reproduce this (on Fedora 19).

Comment 4 Florian Weimer 2014-12-03 15:58:58 UTC
Still present in Fedora 20.

Comment 5 Fedora End Of Life 2015-05-29 08:49:02 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 20 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 20. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version'
of '20'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 20 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 6 Fedora End Of Life 2015-06-29 11:42:12 UTC
Fedora 20 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2015-06-23. Fedora 20 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.

Comment 7 Florian Weimer 2015-09-21 09:20:23 UTC
Still visible with gnome-shell-3.16.3-1.fc22.x86_64.

Comment 8 Sam Bristow 2016-01-11 22:29:43 UTC
I have seen the same behaviour on Fedora 23 (Gnome Shell 3.18.3, Wayland) with no external display connected to the laptop.

Steps to reproduce:
* Log in to Gnome Shell and use it
* Leave the laptop to go into sleep mode by itself
* Wake the machine from sleep
* [ old screen content shown briefly ]
* [ gnome-shell login screen is shown ]
