A little bit input would be very nice, - like which DE? - a list of installed compiz packages - ati or nvidia? - does compiz work in general? - How do you start fusion-icon? pls start fusion-icon from a terminal and post the output here.
Compiz generally runs smoothly on my machine, usually without bugs. I get this bug occasionally from logging in using XDM and a personal ~/.xsession file ________________________________________________________________ ~/.xsession contents: mate-session & fusion-icon & mate-panel & caja & xscreensaver & docky ________________________________________________________________ The Window manager I was using was MATE with Emerald ________________________________________________________________ I do not have a Nvidia graphics card or an ATI graphics card. At the moment I have an Intel HD 4000 Graphics card ________________________________________________________________ Output from running fusion-icon normally inside a terminal ________________________________________________________________ [dylan@localhost ~]$ fusion-icon * Detected Session: unknown * Searching for installed applications... * Intel detected, exporting: INTEL_BATCH=1 * Using the GTK Interface * Starting Compiz ... executing: compiz --replace --sm-disable --ignore-desktop-hints ccp --loose-binding --indirect-rendering compiz (video) - Warn: No 8 bit GLX pixmap format, disabling YV12 image format compiz (core) - Error: Plugin 'text' not loaded. compiz (shift) - Warn: No compatible text plugin loaded. ________________________________________________________________ Installed compiz packages: Name version Arch ccsm 0.8.4-0101.fc17 noarch compiz 0.8.8-0101.fc17 x86_64 compiz-bcop 0.8.8-0101.fc17 noarch compiz-devel 0.8.8-0101.fc17 x86_64 compiz-manager 0.6.0-0101.fc17 noarch compiz-mate 0.8.8-0101.fc17 x86_64 compiz-plugins-extra 0.8.8-0101.fc17 x86_64 compiz-plugins-extra-devel 0.8.8-0101.fc17 x86_64 compiz-plugins-extra-mate 0.8.8-0101.fc17 x86_64 compiz-plugins-main 0.8.8-0101.fc17 x86_64 compiz-plugins-main-devel 0.8.8-0101.fc17 x86_64 compiz-plugins-main-mate 0.8.8-0101.fc17 x86_64 compizconfig-backend-gconf 0.5.2-0.2git.fc17 x86_64 compizconfig-backend-kconfig 0.5.2-0.2git.fc17 x86_64 compizconfig-backend-mateconf 0.8.8-0101.fc17 x86_64 compizconfig-python 0.8.4-0101.fc17 x86_64 emerald 0.8.4-0101.fc17 x86_64 emerald-devel 0.8.4-0101.fc17 x86_64 emerald-themes 0.5.2-0101.fc17 noarch fusion-icon 0.1.0-0101.fc17 noarch libcompizconfig 0.8.8-0101.fc17 x86_64 libcompizconfig-devel 0.8.8-0101.fc17 x86_64 ________________________________________________________________
(In reply to comment #8) Thank you for more infos. > Compiz generally runs smoothly on my machine, usually without bugs. > I get this bug occasionally from logging in using XDM and a personal > ~/.xsession file > ________________________________________________________________ > ~/.xsession contents: > > mate-session & > fusion-icon & > mate-panel & > caja & > xscreensaver & > docky > ________________________________________________________________ That means you're starting compiz with fusion-icon. A better way to start compiz is to add 'compiz-mate-gtk' instead of 'marco' in mate-conf key: /desktop/mate/session/required_components/windowmanager If you want to display fusion-icon at startup, add it to 'mate-session-properties' with the (-n) option. (fusion-icon -n). That means fusion-icon doesn't start compiz again. > ________________________________________________________________ > Output from running fusion-icon normally inside a terminal > ________________________________________________________________ > [dylan@localhost ~]$ fusion-icon > * Detected Session: unknown > * Searching for installed applications... > * Intel detected, exporting: INTEL_BATCH=1 > * Using the GTK Interface > * Starting Compiz > ... executing: compiz --replace --sm-disable --ignore-desktop-hints ccp > --loose-binding --indirect-rendering > compiz (video) - Warn: No 8 bit GLX pixmap format, disabling YV12 image > format > compiz (core) - Error: Plugin 'text' not loaded. > > compiz (shift) - Warn: No compatible text plugin loaded. To avoid those warnings enable the text plugin > ________________________________________________________________ > compizconfig-backend-gconf 0.5.2-0.2git.fc17 x86_64 > compizconfig-backend-kconfig 0.5.2-0.2git.fc17 x86_64 I'm a little bit wondering where do you get those packages, because in f17 compizconfig-backend-gconf and compizconfig-backend-kconfig has other versions? egg. compizconfig-backend-gconf-0.9.5.92-0.1.gitf9ac54186bb62d00b28adc335220dba39a04b702.fc17 In general fusion-icon and compiz is compiled against mate-conf and kde support is droped. So better remove those packages to avoid conflicts. Hopefully this information helps.

However, I do not quite understand what you mean by loading the 'text' plug-in. Is there a configuration file for Compiz that i have to modify? Or do I also add that to: /desktop/mate/session/required_components/windowmanager ? Thank you in advance, I have had some experience in Linux, but have only been running Fedora for 1 - 2 months.

Never mind I have figured this out. Thanks again, Wolfgang Ulbrich.
