RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Red Hat Product Errata RHEA-2013:0379 0 normal SHIPPED_LIVE redhat-release enhancement update for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.4 2013-02-20 20:52:14 UTC

Description Shengnan Wang 2012-12-04 09:43:55 UTC
Description of problem:
The Hypervkvpd was not in the install group checking with "yum grouplist". Both i386 and x86_64 RHEL6.4 guests on Hyper-V host failed to auto load the Hyper-V kvp daemon after installation.

However, the hypervkvpd package (hypervkvpd-0-0.8.el6) was in the RHEL6.4 tree checking with the changlog-released.
changelog-released:
/mnt/redhat/released/RHEL-6/6.3
/mnt/redhat/devel/candidate-trees/RHEL6.4-20121126.0
Loaded plugins: fastestmirror
..................
New package: hypervkvpd-0-0.8.el6
HyperV key value pair (KVP) daemon
..................

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Host: Windows 2008 R2 Hyper-V (6.1.7600.16385)
Guest: Both i386 and x86_64 RHEL6.4 guest (2.6.32-343.el6)

How reproducible:
100%

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Install the RHEL6.4 guest (kernel-2.6.32-343.el6) with the default setting or with all the virtualization setting. The attached files "x64_64_RHEL6U4-install-virtualization-setting.jpg" and "i386_RHEL6U4-install-virtualization-setting.jpg" were the virtualization setting of the RHEL6.4 x86_64 and i386 guest. And the files attached "i386_RHEL5U9-install-virtualization-setting.jpg" and "x86_64_RHEL5U9-install-virtualization-setting.jpg" were the virtualization setting of the RHEL5.9 i386 and x86_64 guest.
2.Reboot the guest.
3.Check the status of the hypervkvpd service.

Actual results:

At step3,hypervkvpd-0-0.8.el6 was not installed on the Hyper-V RHEL6 guest even if the install group 'virtualization' was checked.
The output is null when check the hypervkvpd via "# rpm -qa|grep hypervkvpd".

Expected results:

At step3, hypervkvpd-0-0.8.el6 was installed on the Hyper-V RHEL6 guest if the install group 'virtualization' was checked. Or there was a separated install group 'HyperV' to include this package as RHEL5 does.
# rpm -qa|grep hypervkvpd
hypervkvpd-0-0.8.el6.***

This request was not resolved in time for the current release.
Red Hat invites you to ask your support representative to
propose this request, if still desired, for consideration in
the next release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

Comment 8 Shengnan Wang 2012-12-14 09:06:17 UTC
Hyper-V kvp daemon is a very important function for the Hyper-V RHEL guest. The service should be running after the Hyper-V guest booting. Our custom met the similar problem and file a bug with RHEL5.9 guest. Bug 869809 - Hyper V KVP Daemon does not auto load on RHEL 5.9

Comment 10 Dennis Gregorovic 2013-01-11 19:50:22 UTC
I've gone ahead and changed hypervkvpd from optional to default in the virtualization group.
