Description Dmytro Taranovsky 2012-12-06 01:25:04 UTC
In /var/tmp/ I have hundreds of empty directories with names like systemd-private-XoPYzz, and a few more are created each day. The correct behavior is to cleanup/remove these directories when they are no longer needed.

Comment 1 Michal Sekletar 2013-01-06 16:53:31 UTC
All files in /tmp which were not used within the last 10 days should be removed. This applies also to systemd-private-* directories. Did you alter the default configuration? Please see bug #866693.

Comment 2 Jóhann B. Guðmundsson 2013-01-06 17:01:26 UTC
What's preventing those directories to be removed when they are no longer used or on every reboot as opposed to have them cleaned on fixed interval as in every 10 days?

Comment 3 Dmytro Taranovsky 2013-01-07 15:31:54 UTC
(In reply to comment #1)
I did not change the default configuration; since the directories are in /var/tmp, automatic cleanup of /tmp does not affect them.

Automatic cleanup happens in both directories. However, it's 30d instead of 10d, see /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/tmp.conf.

Comment 5 Lennart Poettering 2013-04-09 11:24:15 UTC
This is fixed in F19, as these temporary directories are removed when we shut down a service.
