Description of problem:
I attempted to capture audio from my mic using the following command:
arecord -c 1 -f dat -d 10 rec_viol.wav the file is created, but when it's played back the static in the recording is severe.

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Run arecord -c 1 -f dat -d 10 rec_viol.wav make noise through the Mic or use loopback and play any wav file.

  
Actual results:
The played back recording has severe static.

Expected results:
Sound quality should be maintained

Problem seen on both HP 8470W and 8470P.
Codec is IDT 92HD81B1X5
