Description Flags
Output for cdrecord generated using k3b front-end none

Description Michael Knepher 2003-04-10 20:29:29 UTC
From Bugzilla Helper:
User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i586) Gecko/20030211 Galeon/1.3.3

Description of problem:
Every burn attempt, successful or otherwise results in a "power on,
reset, or bus device reset occurred" message during the fixate process.
Unsuccessful burns follow this up with an "incompatible medium" message.
The output from cdrecord for a successful burn followed by a failure is
attached. I started off getting a successful burn about every other time, now
just about every attempt fails.

I have no problems under 8.0 with this system (installed on a second hard drive).

I've killed and removed magicdev, and turned DMA on/off. Nothing seems
to make a difference.

My system: K6-2 450, VIA MVP-4 chipset with integrated video/audio,
384MB RAM, Sony CRX120E ATAPI burner (4x8x2x).

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Run cd burning front-end or cdrecord
2.
3.

Actual Results: Every attempt has bus reset error, failures give "incompatible
medium" error.

Expected Results: No errors, successfully burned disk.

Comment 1 Harald Hoyer 2003-04-13 11:35:42 UTC
sounds more like a kernel problem to me... arjan?

Comment 2 Arjan van de Ven 2003-04-13 11:38:53 UTC
I'm not convinced of that harald; the kernel is merely the messenger of the bad
news of a command cdrecord sends not going down well with the device.

Comment 3 Harald Hoyer 2003-04-13 11:57:34 UTC
Sense Code: 0x29 Qual 0x00 (power on, reset, or bus device reset occured)
There is nothing cdrecord can do about this and I do not think cdrecord does a
bus reset whilest burning/fixating...
Buggy hardware?

Comment 4 Michael Knepher 2003-04-13 16:17:23 UTC
I'm willing to admit buggy hardware if it'll get me a faster burner, but why
would the problem not show up under 8.0?

Comment 5 Michael Knepher 2003-04-24 23:29:01 UTC

Output for cdrecord generated using k3b front-end

I now get consistently successful burns using k3b - gtoaster and xcdroast both
result in more failures than success. Perhaps the way they call cdrecord?

Comment 6 Harald Hoyer 2004-02-05 16:20:30 UTC
hmmm... there are newer kernels out there now... do you still
experience these problems?

Comment 7 Michael Knepher 2004-02-06 17:07:13 UTC
Seems to be solved with recent kernels. Can't recall last time I had
a problem. Upgraded to FC1, no problems there either.
