Description Petr Schindler 2012-12-11 13:20:56 UTC
Description of problem:
I've set shortcut Super+a for keyboard layout change. When I press it does nothing (or in gnome-terminal it writes 'a'). When I keep Super key pressed and press 'a' again, it changes the layout. But when I release it and try it again (press Super and 'a') it will again do nothing.

So I have to press and hold super key and then press 'a' key twice to change layout (and if in terminal, I have to erase 'a')

When I try some pre-defined shortcut (such as Super+m) it works correctly.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
gnome-settings-daemon-3.6.3-1.fc18.x86_64

How reproducible:
100%

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Set shortcut for 'Switch to next source' to Super+'a'
2. Press Super+'a'
3. Then try to hold Super and press 'a' twice

Actual results:
2. -> Does nothing
3. -> Changes the layout

Expected results:
2. Changes the layout
3. Changes the layout twice

Comment 1 Tim Flink 2012-12-13 09:44:20 UTC
This bug has been proposed as NTH for Fedora 18 final. If accepted as NTH, a fix for this would be considered for pushing to stable past the change freeze. More details about the NTH process is available at http://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA:SOP_nth_bug_process .

Since there are so may NTH bugs to review, we'd like to find out if there is developer support for accepting this as NTH. If accepted as NTH, would a fix likely be ready in time to be included in Fedora 18 (currently scheduled for 2013-01-08)?

Developer(s), please respond soon as we will be using these responses to prioritize the order in which we review the proposed NTH bugs.

Comment 2 Adam Williamson 2012-12-19 20:09:54 UTC
Discussed at 2012-12-19 NTH review meeting: http://meetbot.fedoraproject.org/fedora-bugzappers/2012-12-19/f18final-blocker-review-6.2012-12-19-17.02.log.txt . Rejected as NTH: this is an annoyance not any kind of showstopper, and could be fixed with an update except for the live case. In general the 'big picture' seems to be that keyboard-shortcut-based layout switching is a bit busted in <= 3.6, but ought to get better in 3.8, and you should either do it from the panel or use gnome-tweak-tool to set up something like alt-shift as the combo. See also https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=873849 .

Comment 3 Rui Matos 2012-12-20 12:15:40 UTC
This is not specific to keyboard layout switching. It happens for all gnome-settings-daemon handled shortcuts which include the Super key and is related to the way gnome-shell captures that key. This is properly fixed in GNOME 3.8.

Comment 4 Fedora End Of Life 2013-12-21 09:51:09 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 18 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 18. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora
'version' of '18'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 18's end of life.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be
able to fix it before Fedora 18 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior to Fedora 18's end of life.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 5 Fedora End Of Life 2014-02-05 13:47:37 UTC
Fedora 18 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2014-01-14. Fedora 18 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
