The problem might well be in the configuration of our systems here at SGI, but moving from lpr-0.48-1.i386.rpm to lpr-0.50-1.i386.rpm causes printing from my RawHide system to remote printers to stop working. I backed off to lpr-0.48-1.i386.rpm and everything works fine. Here is my /etc/printcap file: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- beetlejuice:mx#0:rm=rugrats:rp=beetlejuice: graphite:mx#0:rm=balzac:rp=graphite: hamster:mx#0:rm=rugrats:rp=hamster: mrpink:mx#0:rm=rugrats:rp=mrpink: tallyho:mx#0:rm=rugrats:rp=tallyho: ---------------------------------------------------------------------- With the PRINTER env-var set to tallyho, I tried "lpr ~/.bashrc", which seemed to work fine and put the appropriate files in /var/spool/lpd, and lpd was running, but running "lpq" produced the following error: c130441-j:/1> lpq dunwoody1.engr.sgi.com: Warning: no daemon present Rank Owner Job Files Total Size 1st dunwoody 88 .bashrc 3986 bytes and of course nothing printed. All of the rpms on my system are up to date with the latest RawHide as of this writing (2000/01/26 0500 PST).
0.50-2 fixes this.
