Description of problem: I've installed redhat linux 9 on my laptop toshiba satellite 1805 s274, and redhat detects a sound card ALi M5451 but fails when tries to load the modules. Before redhat I was using Mandrake 9 and the sound was working okay. What can I do to make the sound work? Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): How reproducible: use sndconfig Steps to Reproduce: 1.test the soundcard detected Actual results: no sound Expected results: sound Additional info:
I have the same problem. It worked under Red Hat 8 (and 7.[123]). I reinstalled 8 and noticed that the video driver selected was VESA with a 16 bit color map. Reh Hat 9 selected a Trident video driver with a 24 bit color map. Both 8 and 9 selectecd the same sound module. They both share IRQ 11, so I wonder if there is a conflict?
Created attachment 91313 [details] Found patch that solves problem I found this bug/patch to the 2.5 kernel: http://bugme.osdl.org/show_bug.cgi?id=375 I applied the patch to drivers/sound/trident.c, built and installed a new kernel, and now sound works.
Is this patch going to be incorporated into an kernel update for RH9? If it's coming out soonish, I won't bother recompiling.
I will put up a kernel soonish; need to merge other stuff too
