RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description Martin Kyral 2013-01-04 14:24:24 UTC
Description of problem:
There are some option of the man command, that are documented in its man page, but not in the usage information shown by 'man -h'.
Also, some options are described in the detailed documentation, but missing from man page synopsis or usage line respectively.

1) -B -H -F options are documented only in the man page
2) -D option is documented in the OPTIONS section of the man page, but missing in SYNOPSIS
3) -C -D options are documented in the detailed part of the man -h output, but missing from the usage line

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
man-1.6f-32.el6

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. compare 'man man' and 'man -h' output
2. compare SYNOPSIS and OPTIONS sections of the man page
3. compare usage line and the detailed options description in the 'man -h' output

Actual results:
See description

Expected results:
All available options are listed in both man page and 'man -h'. All of them are included in SYNOPSIS or usage line respectively.

Comment 2 Martin Kyral 2013-01-04 14:44:27 UTC
Following binaries from the man package have similar issues:

man2html lacks the following options in the command line usage information (compared to its man page): -D -E -H -L -M

makewhatis lacks the following options in the command line usage information (compared to its man page): -U -o

Comment 3 RHEL Program Management 2013-01-08 06:47:26 UTC
This request was not resolved in time for the current release.
Red Hat invites you to ask your support representative to
propose this request, if still desired, for consideration in
the next release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

> 2. compare SYNOPSIS and OPTIONS sections of the man page
is simple fix,

> 1. compare 'man man' and 'man -h' output
> 3. compare usage line and the detailed options description in the 'man -h' output
man is not on ACL and as this is a change into man package, this will not be fixed in rhel6.6. You can clone this bug mentioning 1. and 3. for rhel6.7.
