Description of problem:
i have 2 disk in a laptop. In the second disk (sdb), i have a partion that i use to try the distribution, /sdb1, but anacond don't allow me to select the partition. Anacondo tell me to install in /sdb3 and i can't selecet a other partion.

How reproducible:
With 2 internals hd

Steps to Reproduce:
1. manual partition of the disk

Comment 1 Chris Lumens 2013-01-07 13:44:38 UTC
Can you please be more exact in your description? Exactly what are you doing, and what are the exact messages anaconda is giving you? There's not really enough information here for us to do anything with.

Comment 2 Michele 2013-01-07 14:33:57 UTC
i try to install Fedora on /dev/sdb1, but anaconda tell me (only) /dev/sdb3 and i can't change the partition, anaconda hide the disk partition

my partitions disks:

/dev/sda(1,2,3) windows 7

/dev/sdb1 used to try fedora 18
/dev/sdb2 swap
/dev/sdb3 root of slackware
/dev/sdb5 home of slackware

(sorry for my bad english)

Comment 3 Michele 2013-01-07 14:41:48 UTC
P.S. I use graphical install, i don't know hot to install in text mode.

Comment 4 Steve Tyler 2013-01-07 20:23:03 UTC
Could you attach a screenshot or a digital photo of your display?

The output from this might help too:
$ lsblk -mf

Comment 5 Chris Lumens 2013-01-07 20:34:03 UTC
Please attach /tmp/anaconda.log and /tmp/storage.log from when you hit this error to this bug report as individual files. THanks.

Select /dev/sdb.
This is the first select partition, i think that is corectly, because my /dev/sdb1 is 19 Gb

Second select of my dev/sdb, i do not understand what is that.
Probabili that is /dev/sdb3

I write from the live 18 beta.
[liveuser@localhost ~]$ uname -a
Linux localhost.localdomain 3.6.6-3.fc18.x86_64 #1 SMP Mon Nov 5 16:26:34 UTC 2012 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Comment 13 Steve Tyler 2013-01-08 07:28:35 UTC
Thanks for your excellent followup information.

After selecting the Root, 19.17 GB, partition, did you try clicking on the Reformat check box?

You appear to be running the beta version of the installer:
[snippet from /tmp/anaconda.log]
16:49:38,789 INFO anaconda: /sbin/anaconda 18.29.2

Post-beta versions[1] of the installer will show you the partition device names of your standard partitions:
https://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/alt/stage/

The user interface is very confusing here, but the intent, AIUI, is to show each Linux installation with all of its associated devices under one heading:

Linux installation 1 (?)
    Root /dev/sdb1
    swap /dev/sdb2
Linux installation 2 (slackware?)
    Home /dev/sdb5
    Root /dev/sdb3
    swap /dev/sdb2

The installer needs to do a better job of identifying other installations.

[1] Releases are announced on test-announce:
http://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/test-announce/2013-January/date.html

Comment 14 Michele 2013-01-08 17:08:19 UTC
From the link https://dl.fedoraproject.org/pub/alt/stage/, i downloaded the last iso (3 jan). Next i repeat the step.

Checked "Reformat" (after a complete backup) i installed the Cow.
I'm write from Fedora 18.

I do not understand because partitioning is designed so different from the 'standard'. Once you understand (thanks to you) the operation seems pretty simple, although I have not understand how modify the partitions.

Thank you very much.

Can i set status of this bugreport closed?

Comment 15 Steve Tyler 2013-01-08 18:20:21 UTC
Thanks for your report.

Congratulations on getting F18 installed. There were two newer versions, 18-RC1 and 18-RC2, but it sounds like 18-TC4 worked for you.

The bug here, IMO, is that the installer did not fully identify your other Linux installations. There is already a bug related to that problem:
Bug 887112 - Existing Windows 7 appears under 'Unknown' in Manual Partitioning

The installer should also enumerate unknown installations, so that they can be distinguished from each other in the Manual Partitioning dialog:

Unknown Linux 1
Unknown Linux 2
...

Comment 16 Michele 2013-01-08 21:11:27 UTC
yes, i use TC14: Fedora-18-TC4-x86_64-Live-Desktop.iso
Ok, close this bug.
