Install gdm and Xorg with yum (yum install gdm xorg-x11-server-Xorg gnome-shell) 3. boot in runlevel 3 4. login as user on console 5. create ~/.Xclients with following: #!/bin/sh xterm 6. startx 7. in xterm window, run gnome-session Actual results: gnome-shell crashes Because gdm uses gnome-shell, problem also affects GDM (GDM hangs with "rolling activity" mouse pointer) Expected results: Additional info: One more way to check is: After installing gnome-screensaver (yum install gnome-screensaver) gnome-shell works well, so it looks like gnome-shell and gdm must "require" gnome-screensaver in SPEC file?
