Description of problem: On the main window of kde login screen, if a user has a password in caps, the warning message is misspelled. It says "caps lock enabl". The spellings of enabl should be enabled or the warning message should be changed to something like caps lock is on. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): 4.9.5-1.fc17 How reproducible: On the main login screen of kde, press the caps lock and read the warning message. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Boot the system into kde 2. Press the caps lock from the keyboard 3. Read the warning message written in red text Actual results: caps lock enabl Expected results: caps lock enabled/caps lock is on Additional info:
I think the issue there is simply that there is not enough room in the theme to display the full message.
The word enabl comprises 5 characters. If we replace the enabl with "is on", we can display the whole message as "is on" comprises exactly 5 characters (space included).
Sorry, we're not in a business of rewording messages to save a few characters, it won't work for translations anyway. The theme needs more space for the message.
I don't have an exact idea of the internal structure of Fedora (translation thingy etc.) and I ain't fully aware of the impact of my suggestion on the overall design process. It just came into my mind and I shared my thought. You guys know better what to do and you are free to do it as per optimization.:) One thing, the illiterate word is in Fedora 18 too.
This message is a reminder that Fedora 17 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 17. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '17'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 17's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 17 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 17's end of life. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
Bumping Version as per comment #4.
The same applies to SchroedingerCat theme... I've just moved the message under the password entry field and made it longer. Commit and update coming soon.

Created attachment 782825 [details] Patch for older versions I pushed the same fix for the Schrödinger's Cat theme, too. If you're still using any of the older themes, apply the attached patch to your /usr/share/kde4/apps/kdm/themes/${Theme}/${theme}.xml (/usr/share/kde4/apps/kdm/themes/SchroedingerCat/schroedinger-cat.xml for example).
I think this applies to all the recent themes we've been shipping. They're still in the repo, so in principle we can push fixes to beefy-miracle-kde-theme too, and the older themes if they're affected.
Package spherical-cow-kde-theme-18.0.3-1.fc18: * should fix your issue, * was pushed to the Fedora 18 testing repository, * should be available at your local mirror within two days. Update it with: # su -c 'yum update --enablerepo=updates-testing spherical-cow-kde-theme-18.0.3-1.fc18' as soon as you are able to. Please go to the following url: https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2013-14248/spherical-cow-kde-theme-18.0.3-1.fc18 then log in and leave karma (feedback).

It does, I just don't have commit rights to the previous themes and didn't want to ask for them at that moment, so I just included the patch. I can do it anyway though, if you think it's a good idea (and a nice reason to ask for provenpackager rights...).
Yes, I think it's a good idea. Please apply for ACLs for the older themes in pkgdb and I (or one of the other (co)maintainers) will approve them.
