Description Andrew Schultz 2013-01-23 04:17:03 UTC
Created attachment 685646 [details]
patch to unbreak text frames

Description of problem:
zms fails to create text-only frames because the check on fwrite in StreamBase::sendTextFrame is backwards.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
zoneminder-1.25.0-11.fc18

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Have multiple events recorded (with gaps)
2. Go to the view events page
3. Select Replay=All Events
4. Wait for a gap

Actual results:
I get a black image with garbled white stuff in the middle. In the logs, I also get "Unable to send stream text frame...".

Expected results:
A black image with appropriate text ("Time to next event = XXX seconds")

Additional info:
This seems like a prime candidate to report upstream and if their joke-of-a-bug-tracking-tool forum would accept the user I just created, I would do so. But it doesn't and I'm reporting here instead. Enjoy.

+1 on this bug. It was happening on my F18 i686 installation too. Manually fixed the missing != -1 and rebuilt the rpm.

Typo. I fixed the missing != 1.

If you provide a patch, I'll go ahead and apply it. As far as I can tell, though, zoneminder is dead upstream to the point where they won't fix or even comment on a rather unfortunate security bug and so the software should probably be dropped from Fedora. I'm not sure what Martin is doing at this point, but I really don't have time to proxy every bug report that should be made upstream, and I really don't want to just maintain what amounts to a fork of the program for Fedora.

Jason, Andrew's patch is attached to this bug report. It works fine.

BTW, I am giving up on zm. Seems to be a dead project.

BTW, I checked and this fix is in zoneminder 1.26.

And the zoneminder project is active again.

Comment 6 Fedora End Of Life 2013-12-21 15:19:23 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 18 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 18. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora
'version' of '18'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 18's end of life.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be
able to fix it before Fedora 18 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior to Fedora 18's end of life.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 7 Fedora End Of Life 2014-02-05 22:59:20 UTC
Fedora 18 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2014-01-14. Fedora 18 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
