== Comment: #0 - SACHIN P. SANT <ssant.com> - 2013-01-23 01:54:20 == Steps to recreate : 1) Install Fedora 18 (with GNOME desktop) on a s390x machine. 2) Change the /usr/share/gnome-session/hardware-compatibility file as follows diff hardware-compatibility-old hardware-compatibility 26c26 < -software rasterizer --- > #-software rasterizer 3) Install vncserver package and configure the vnc desktop tigervnc-license-1.2.80-0.6.20121126svn5015.fc18.noarch.rpm tigervnc-server-1.2.80-0.6.20121126svn5015.fc18.s390x.rpm tigervnc-server-minimal-1.2.80-0.6.20121126svn5015.fc18.s390x.rpm 4) unblock vnc port via firwall-cmd --add-service=vnc-server 5) Connect via vnc client. The vnc desktop displays a warning conveying GNOME3 Failed to Load properly. Have attached the screen shot of the messages. Is this expected ? If yes what GNOME 3 features/functionality will not be available with fallback mode ? == Comment: #3 - SACHIN P. SANT <ssant.com> - 2013-01-23 02:29:00 == I am using the 20130111 F18 build. ------- Comment From ssant.com 2013-02-26 10:32 EDT------- @Red Hat, Is the software rasterizer hack (as mentioned in the steps to recreate) still required with latest builds of Fedora ? I have tried upgrading the following packages to the lastest level (available via updates repo), but still cannot get a 3D desktop. Desktop always starts in fallback mode. # rpm -qa | grep mesa mesa-libgbm-9.0.1-4.fc18.s390x mesa-dri-filesystem-9.0.1-4.fc18.s390x mesa-libGLU-9.0.0-1.fc18.s390x mesa-dri-drivers-9.0.1-4.fc18.s390x mesa-libglapi-9.0.1-4.fc18.s390x mesa-libEGL-9.0.1-4.fc18.s390x mesa-libGL-9.0.1-4.fc18.s390x mesa-libGLES-9.0.1-4.fc18.s390x # rpm -qa gnome-session gnome-session-3.6.2-3.fc18.s390x # rpm -qa gnome-shell gnome-shell-3.6.3-2.fc18.s390x # Any inputs on how I can get the 3D desktop up and running ?
Please also add Adam Jackson to cc: of this bug - anybody else to add? thx
------- Comment From baude.com 2013-02-27 18:17 EDT------- Be sure to grab the updated package for mesa which will turn on the classic sw rast. http://s390.koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=164543
------- Comment From ssant.com 2013-06-04 08:18 EDT------- This is fixed with F19 builds. closing.
This message is a reminder that Fedora 18 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 18. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '18'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 18's end of life. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 18 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 18's end of life. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
Fedora 18 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2014-01-14. Fedora 18 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this bug. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
