Description Ken Dreyer 2013-01-23 18:08:12 UTC

output of lspci -vvv

Description of problem:

X is perceptively slower with the xorg-x11-drv-intel-2.20.18-1.fc17 package in updates-testing. Scrolling is jerkier, Javascript animations stutter, and when I maximize or minimize windows in xfwm, I can see the windows "painting" before the actual contents appear. When I downgraded to xorg-x11-drv-intel-2.20.16-1.fc17 the problem went away. I then upgraded back to xorg-x11-drv-intel-2.20.18-1.fc17 and the problem appeared again.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
xorg-x11-drv-intel-2.20.18-1.fc17

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. yum --enablerepo=updates-testing update xorg-x11-drv-intel
2. Restart X

Actual results:
Performance is slower and jerky

Expected results:
X works as normal

Additional info:

My laptop is a Dell Inspiron E1405, Intel 945GM Chipset.

gtkperf with drv-intel 2.20.18-1.fc17

The biggest slowdown from gtkperf was the GtkDrawingArea - Text time: with the old Intel driver it was 0.35 seconds, and with the new Intel driver, it is 7.34 seconds.

How's 2.20.19?

Do you happen to have a DisplayLink USB gadget plugged in?

gtkperf with drv-intel 2.20.19-1.fc17

I rebuilt the 2.20.19-1.fc18 package in mock for F17. Unfortunately there was no change in gtkperf performance, and windows are still visibly delayed.

I don't have a DisplayLink USB device - it's just a standard Dell laptop, and I'm using the laptop screen.

I suffer from the same issue with a similar laptop (Dell Latitude 2120) and a similar video card (Intel Corporation N10 Family Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)) with driver i915. I observe a very high cpu usage from the Xorg process which disappears if I downgrade to the previous version.

Feel free to ask me more details....

Comment 9 Erwan LE PENNEC 2013-02-02 12:53:33 UTC
Let me mention that i do not provide any specific i915 option to the kernel and the issue arises whether I am using kernel 3.6 or 3.7.

Comment 10 Erwan LE PENNEC 2013-02-07 11:14:52 UTC
This bug should be fixed by upgrading libdrm to version 2.4.41 or later.

gtkperf with drv-intel 2.21.2-1.fc17 and libdrm-2.4.42-1.fc17

I've updated to the following versions:

xorg-x11-drv-intel-2.21.2-1.fc17
libdrm-2.4.42-1.fc17

and performance is as I expect. Thank you!

Comment 13 Fedora Update System 2013-03-02 20:13:25 UTC
libdrm-2.4.42-1.fc17 has been pushed to the Fedora 17 stable repository. If problems still persist, please make note of it in this bug report.
