Note: This bug is displayed in read-only format because the product is no longer active in Red Hat Bugzilla.
RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Previously, if "RHEV SPICE agent" was stopped after copying data from a Windows guest, the client was not correctly notified, and assumed it could still paste the data. Now, agent termination has been fixed so that the client is notified to release the clipboard.

vdservice stops vdagent via event none

Description Bill Sanford 2013-01-23 20:55:27 UTC
Description of problem:
With RHEL6.4-20130109.1 and a Windows 7 VM, copy some text from the SPICE VM to copy to the RHEL client. Before you can paste the text to gedit in the client stop spice-vdagent on the Windows VM. When you stop the spice-vdagent on the VM, this kills the clipboard on the RHEL client.

After the clipboard is wiped from stopping vdagent on the guest, if you right-click on the gedit area on the client, you still get the "Paste" in the gedit menu displayed like there is still something in the client clipboard.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
RHEL6.4-20130109.1

How reproducible:
100%

Steps to Reproduce:
1. See above.
2.
3.

Actual results:
The "Paste" in the gedit menu selection is highlighted.

Expected results:
The "Paste" in the gedit menu selection is not highlighted.

Comment 1 Arnon Gilboa 2013-01-24 12:25:43 UTC
Bill,

I think it should be mingw-virt-viewer responsibility and not vdagent.

Please test the same scenario with RHEL guest, and see if it has the same behavior.

Comment 2 Bill Sanford 2013-01-24 14:24:45 UTC
Arnon,

The mingw-virt-viewer is not even used. This is virt-viewer on the RHEL client viewing a Windows VM.

Comment 3 Bill Sanford 2013-01-24 14:26:58 UTC
Arnon, if I do the same with a RHEL VM, the "Right-click" menu does not have the "Paste" selection highlighted, it is grayed out.

Comment 4 Arnon Gilboa 2013-01-28 14:12:47 UTC
Thanks Bill. So when vdservice (RHEV Spice Agent) is manually stopped, vdagent needs to send VD_AGENT_CLIPBOARD_RELEASE before it terminates. Right?

Comment 5 Vimal Patel 2013-01-28 14:24:11 UTC
That seems to be the issue. If the remote-viewer session is terminated, the Paste option is grayed out in gedit. If the vdagent service is manually terminated, the Paste option is displayed in gedit, but there is nothing in the clipboard.
