Created attachment 686610 [details] Screenshot when shutting down Description of problem: Often when I shutdown my F18 installation (with KDE) the shutdown hangs and the computer never comes to the point where it should power off/reboot. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): All avaliable updates are installed. How reproducible: In about 5 of 10 shutdowns (problem seems not to appear, if the system is just booted, logged in and then directly shutdown). Steps to Reproduce: 1. Start F18 2. Log into KDE 3. Start some applications like Konsole, KMail, Firefox 4. Close all applications 5. Shutdown/reboot the computer Actual results: - Shutdown process starts - When pressing [ESC] I can see that it hangs the first time after "Stopped Target Remote Filesystem" (just a note: I don't have any remote filesystems) - After some minutes the shutdown continues and more messages appear - Then the system hangs again after printing "Started Save Random Seed" - 15 Minutes after this message appeared, I turned off the computer, because it doesn't seem to come to an end. I attached a photo of the shutdown messages. Expected results: Computer should shutdown/reboot if told.
Please follow these guidelines to get some more information on the shutdown: http://freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/systemd/Debugging#Diagnosing_Shutdown_Problems
Created attachment 687524 [details] shutdown-log.txt It seems that it doesn't only appear when working and then shutting down. Now I had it, after I boot F18 and direclty shutdown on the graphical login (without logging in). First it hang on some alsa messages for some minutes and then it continues and hang later for (i guess) endless with an other message. I haven't taken a photo, because I thought it would be in the logfile - but the shutdown-log.txt doesn't contain anything after 23.068101 (the latest messages I saw before I pressed reset, was 850). I'll try to get photo's of the messages where it hangs on shutdown.

Created attachment 687544 [details] Photo where the shutdown hangs the second time The second long moment where it stuck during shutdown.
Created attachment 687545 [details] Photo where the shutdown hangs finally After this messages the computer hangs endless (?) and doesn't seem to shutdown/reboot (longest I wait was 15 mins). I have to turn it off or press reset. If I press [Ctrl]-[Alt]-[Del] some messages come up, but still doesnt shutdown. If you require a photo of this too, let me know.
Do you have any weird file systems mounted? NFS? fuse stuff? ntfs? Are you using LVM? The shutdown-log.txt you attached kinda shows that systemd finishes the high-level shutdown fine, and then something in late shutdown hangs. Those could be broken file systems, or it could be some drop-in in /usr/lib/systemd/system-shutdown. Do you have any scripts in there?
> Do you have any weird file systems mounted? NFS? fuse stuff? ntfs? Only 3 NTFS partitions are mounted (I already have this since many Fedora versions in my fstab): /dev/sda1 /windows/XP ntfs quiet,exec,umask=000 0 0 /dev/sda2 /windows/7 ntfs quiet,exec,umask=000 0 0 /dev/sdb8 /windows/Daten ntfs quiet,exec,umask=000 0 0 > Are you using LVM? Nothing, except the debug.sh. # ls -la /usr/lib/systemd/system-shutdown/ insgesamt 12 drwxr-xr-x. 2 root root 4096 24. Jan 21:15 . drwxr-xr-x. 12 root root 4096 22. I commented the three ntfs lines out. The first 5 reboots where fine. The sixth was hanging again.
This message is a reminder that Fedora 18 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 18. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '18'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 18's end of life. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 18 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 18's end of life. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
Fedora 18 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2014-01-14. Fedora 18 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this bug. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
