Description David Kowis 2013-01-31 06:02:50 UTC
Description of problem:
I cannot play back any music files in clementine (or pithos, for another app).

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): 1.0.1

How reproducible:
Every single time.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start up clementine (I start it up in a terminal), after logging in to KDE
2. Play music.
3. FAIL

Actual results:
No music plays, and the output from clementine is this:
00:01:39.408 DEBUG MessageReply<MessageType>:93 Releasing ID 19 (finished)
00:01:39.408 DEBUG _MessageReplyBase:30 Acquired ID 19
00:01:39.721 ERROR GstEnginePipeline:527 9 "pulsesink.c(570): gst_pulseringbuffer_open_device (): /GstPulseSink:autoaudiosink-113-actual-sink-pulse"
00:01:39.721 ERROR GstEnginePipeline:527 9 "gstautoaudiosink.c(369): gst_auto_audio_sink_detect (): /GstPipeline:pipeline/GstBin:audiobin/GstAutoAudioSink:autoaudiosink-113:
Failed to find a supported audio sink"
00:01:39.725 WARN GstEngine:565 Gstreamer error: "Failed to connect: Connection refused"

Expected results:
Music :D

Additional info:

Sound card is a ct-xfi driver. Testing it through the audio setup indicates that it detects front, center/lfe, and surround just fine. Running the test sound through all of them works just fine as well.

I managed to resolve this.

If I right clicked on the kmix in the notification area and brought up Audio set up, it would bring up the Sound and Video Configuration dialog, but it had an individual device for each one of my sound card's output devices.

I thought that was odd, but I couldn't figure out why.

I started up the System Settings from the KDE menu, and closed the Sound and Video Configuration module, so it could open it up in the System Settings window, and then the device preferneces were much different. They showed a PulseAudio Sound Server, which is what I expected there to be.

Then suddenly I'm able to play music again.

I'll double check after a reboot to make sure everything is still sane. Not sure how this happened.

Yeah, sure enough, once getting it done, it's persisted and now everything is fine. Strangest glitch ever.
