Created attachment 692908 [details] Black screen after unlocking the computer Description of problem: I have an HP EliteBook 8460p laptop with an AMD Radeon HD 6470M graphics card. Once in a while, after resuming from hibernate (or suspend) and then unlocking the computer, I get a black "locked" screen as in the attached screenshot. If I leave the computer alone for ~10 minutes, the black "locked" screen clears out and I'm able to use the computer again. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): gnome-screensaver-3.4.1-1.fc17.x86_64 How reproducible: Fairly often. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Hibernate or suspend the computer 2. Resume the computer 3. Type in the password to unlock the screen Actual results: The computer is unlocked (see additional info) but covered with a black screen. Expected results: The computer is unlocked and ready to use. Additional info: After a few occurrences of this bug, I discovered that the mouse cursor changes according to what is "behind" the black screen. This leads me to believe that the computer is actually fully functional. There are no errors in /var/log/pm-suspend.log. The Xorg.0.log file contains nothing unusual besides the repeated debug messages: [ 27573.951] (II) RADEON(0): radeon_dri2_schedule_flip:665 fevent[0xa728000] [ 27573.959] (II) RADEON(0): radeon_dri2_flip_event_handler:1069 fevent[0xa728000] width 1920 pitch 7680 (/4 1920) (reported in bug #820731) The keyboard also works fine. If I press Fn+Print Screen, a screenshot is taken, however, I have to wait for ~25s (!!) to hear the camera click sound. If I don't have the time to wait for the black screen to go away, I can restart the X server by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Backspace.
This message is a reminder that Fedora 17 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 17. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '17'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 17's end of life. Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 17 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 17's end of life. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
Unfortunatelly, this is still present in Fedora 18. I hadn't had the time to test it on Fedora 19 yet.

Fedora 18 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2014-01-14. Fedora 18 is no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug. If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this bug. Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
