dmesg after some screen corruption

Description of problem:
1. After some time working with the system it starts to corrupt pieces of the screen. It happens mainly using LibreOffice and Firefox.
If you close the session and start a new one it works fine ... for some time.
2. As you Resume after hibernation or Sleep you get a totally corrupted screen, the system hangs up and you have to reinitialize.
I reported similar bugs on F16 (870358) and F17 (879554).
My computer is an LG E500 with NVidia:
VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation G86 [GeForce 8400M G] (rev a1)
I'm using nouveau driver:
lsmod | grep nouveau

mxm_wmi 12762 1 nouveau

video 18552 1 nouveau
On dmesg I detect nouveau errors like:
nouveau [ PFIFO][0000:01:00.0] CACHE_ERROR - Ch 4/3 Mthd 0x1b00 Data 0x00000000

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

It's a regression fault as far as it worked fine until Kernel 3.4.11 on F16

Comment 3 quique 2013-02-17 19:27:52 UTC
I have just tested Kernel 3.7.7-201.fc18.i686 and using five minutes Firefox and LibreOffice Impress I got spots on the screen and I found with dmesg this error:
nouveau [ PFIFO][0000:01:00.0] CACHE_ERROR - Ch 4/0 Mthd 0x0060 Data 0x8000000f
It seems the same as before.

The issue is still pending even on F17 using:

Comment 5 Frantisek Reznicek 2013-04-20 17:15:55 UTC
Workaround is to disable display power management.
Migration to xorg-x11-drv-nouveau-1.0.6-7.fc17.x86_64 seems (so far) to solve the issue.

Comment 6 Sudheesh Singanamalla 2013-04-22 13:20:10 UTC
replicated the steps but couldn't get the spots or a corrupted screen. What i did.

1. Sleep
2. Resume
3. Run libreoffice.
 #5 minutes wait.
4. No error.
5. Ran Firefox.
 #5 minutes wait.
6. Ran both firefox and libreoffice.
 #5 minutes wait.
No error yet.

I think what Frantisek Reznicek suggested should be working, migrate to
xorg-x11-drv-nouveau-1.0.6-7.fc17.x86_64

Did i do anything wrong in replicating the process ?

Comment 7 quique 2013-04-22 13:48:54 UTC
I'm sorry but I can't try it again as far as I had to migrate to another distribution due to this persistent error.
In my case and until F18, Kernel 3.7.7-201.fc18.i686, Hibernate and Resume was enough to replicate the corruption. Always and immediate.
Just using Firefox or LibreOffice was not so fast. You had to spend some time, some activity, but no more than five minutes.

Comment 8 Fedora End Of Life 2013-12-21 11:12:47 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 18 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 18. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora
'version' of '18'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 18's end of life.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be
able to fix it before Fedora 18 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior to Fedora 18's end of life.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 9 Fedora End Of Life 2014-02-05 18:59:33 UTC
Fedora 18 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2014-01-14. Fedora 18 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
