Note: This bug is displayed in read-only format because the product is no longer active in Red Hat Bugzilla.
RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description Shengnan Wang 2013-02-08 05:20:16 UTC
Description of problem:

1. Five drivers are added into the RHEL6 guest. However, in the document Virtualization_Host_Configuration_and_Guest_Installation_Guide (http://documentation-devel.engineering.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/6/html/Virtualization_Host_Configuration_and_Guest_Installation_Guide/ch08.html#idp10002304) , list and introduce two drivers (vmxnet3 ; vmw_pvscsi). (file attached: "Virtualization_Host_Configuration_and_Guest_Installation_Guide_ESX.jpg")

Other three drivers should be added into the Virtualization_Host_Configuration_and_Guest_Installation_Guide:

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.0 and onward provide the vmware_balloon driver, a para-virtualized memory ballooning driver used when running Red Hat Enterprise Linux on VMWare hosts. For further information about this driver, refer to http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=1002586.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.3 and onward provide the vmmouse_drv driver, a para-virtualized mouse driver used when running Red Hat Enterprise Linux on VMWare hosts. For further information about this driver, refer to http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=5739104.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.3 and onward provide the vmware_drv driver, a para-virtualized video driver used when running Red Hat Enterprise Linux on VMWare hosts. For further information about this driver, refer to http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=1033557.

2. There are two parts in 'Chapter 8'. One is '8.1. On VMWare', and the other is '8.2. On Hyper-V'. Hyper-V is the name of the Microsoft's Windows Server Virtualization product. However, VMWare is the company name and its virtualization product called VMware ESX. It is not identical in my opinion. What's your idea about this issue?

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Guest: RHEL6.4 guest (2.6.32-358.el6)

How reproducible:
100%

Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.
3.

Actual results:

In the document, only two ESX drivers are listed and introduced.

Expected results:

In the document, list and introduce all five ESX drivers.

Additional info:

1. The same issue met in the 6-Beta Virtualization_Host_Configuration_and_Guest_Installation_Guide page.(http://documentation-devel.engineering.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/6-Beta/html/Virtualization_Host_Configuration_and_Guest_Installation_Guide/ch08.html#idp11869688)
