Description Andrei Gaponenko 2013-02-11 16:33:13 UTC
Hello,

Clicking on hyperlinks in a PDF file in Fedora 18's okular has no effect. Hyperlinks in the same files are handled just fine by evince.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
okular-4.9.5-3.fc18.src.rpm

How reproducible:
always

Steps to Reproduce:
Open a PDF file with hyperlinks (e.g. produced by LaTeX+hyperref).
Try clicking on a link, nothing happens.

Additional info:
Worked fine in Fedora 16, so this is a regression.

Andrei

Hi,
this works just fine for me in okular-4.10.0-1.fc18.x86_64.
Can you please provide a reproducing document?
Thank you.

A pdf file with hyperlinks.

Martin, thank you for your reply. An example file is attached. It has several kinds of hyperlinks (page references in the table of contents, navigation at the bottom of the page, and links to web pages). None of them work in okular-4.9.5-3.fc18.x86_64, which is the version I get on a fully updated Fedora 18 system.

Andrei, I tested it both in 4.9.5-3 and 4.10.0-1 and it works just fine, the same as in evince.
Maybe it is caused by the fact I already updated to 4.10 and it was fixed somewhere in the libs. But it should be alright after the update.

Martin, thanks! What is the plan for getting 4.10 into Fedora - will it make it into Fedora 18? I don't see it in updates-testing.

Yes.

It will be pushed this week.

However, I cannot reproduce your bug on 4.9.5 on Fedora 17, so I'm afraid it's not the version of Okular.

Do you have suggestions on how to debug my issue? If I run "okular document.pdf" it does not complain about anything, just the links don't work. Is there a way to make it print debug output or any warnings that might be suppressed by default? Could links be disabled somewhere in okular configuration - what should I check for?

You can enable the debug output by running kdebugdialog and selecting the appropriate sources. First, I would try selecting all and if the output will be too long and messy, select just Okular.

Hi,

I think I have figured this one out. When the "browse" tool is active then hyperlinks are followed. When another tool (e.g. text selection) is active,
clicking on a hyperlink has no effect. That makes user experience extremely confusing: things just do or do not work "at random".

How can this be improved?

Andrei

I'd suggest contacting upstream wrt improvements...

Not sure how one could expect 'select text' tool to do anything but select text (if you expect it to follow hyperlinks, how could one ever select its text?)
