Description of problem: Try this in some non-empty directory find . | cpio -pmd /var/tmp/target where "/var/tmp/target" actually exists. When typing the above on a command line it does not matter how long substring of "/var/tmp/target" is already provided bash has not a clue how to complete. This used to work just fine. Moreover assumptions that a zip archive needs to have a .zip suffix, and other similar of that sort, are clearly DOA. Quite annoying, in fact. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): bash-completion-2.0-2.fc18

Quite annoying, in fact. If you disagree with what bash-completion offers, you can get rid of it by just removing the package. Or if you wish to override it on per completion basis at runtime and revert to what plain bash would complete, hit Alt+/ instead of where you'd normally hit Tab. In the future, please report separate issues in separate bugs, thanks. In this case, the zip remark has nothing to do with the cpio non-completion.
The cpio completion is marginally better wrt recognizing pass thru mode now in upstream git. It surely worked when bash-completion was NOT installed, and bash was doing things on its own, and I possibly remember that situation. I noticed after an upgrade to F18 but it could have been an accident. > If you disagree with what bash-completion offers ... Various things are helpful while other just opposite.
