Description Anand Vaddarapu 2013-02-18 05:32:00 UTC
Description of problem:
After creating a admin user (or default admin account) and that's needed to bound to a organization and any Environment under organization. If fails to do so then a client system registered to SAM will not appear in SAM web portal.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Red Hat Subscription Asset Manager 1.2
Installation Guide

How reproducible:
Obtain a copy of the CA certificate for the Subscription Asset Manager server and install it in the RHSM certificate directory.

# rpm -ivh http://[fqdn_sam]/pub/candlepin-cert-consumer-[fqdn_sam]-1.0-1.noarch.rpm

Launch RHSM by using the following command:

# subscription-manager-gui

Click the Register button to register your system.

Enter your Subscription Asset Manager username and password. Once you have entered your account details, click the Register button.

RHSM scans the network for available organizations. When the configured organizations are detected, RHSM prompts for the organization for the system to join. It is only possible to register with one organization. If the selected organization has multiple environments available, then RHSM will detect them and provide a list. It is possible to join multiple environments. Use the Ctrl key to select multiple environments from the list. If no environment is selected, then RHSM uses the default environment for the organization.

Login into SAM and click on 'systems' tab, check registered system won't be appear there anymore

Steps to Reproduce:
1.
2.
3.

Actual results:
Client system not appearing in SAM 'systems' tab

Expected results:
Client system should appear in SAM 'systems' tab

Do you get an error when you attempt to register without an environment?

Just to add info. I attempted to recreate during the doc review for SAM 1.3....

The screen does not present a "submit" or "save" button on create and automatically moved me to the next screen (did complain about my password/email). I received no error message when I created a new user without assigning a organization. The second summary screen I was presented did have an organization tab. If I took it the screen shows I do not have a organization or environment assigned.

Is there an related software bug to have the software enforce a dependency?

Comment 5 Deon Ballard 2013-10-10 01:10:54 UTC
BK, is this still an issue since environments have been removed?

Comment 6 Deon Ballard 2013-11-01 17:00:13 UTC
I am closing this since environments have been replaced by system groups. We can reopen if necessary.
