Since Thunderbird was updated from 10.0 to 17.0 in RHEL6, yum generates a conflict because thunderbird-lightning in EPEL 6 hasn't been updated to match. The versions on the system are: # rpm -qa | grep -i thunderbird thunderbird-lightning-1.2.3-1.el6.x86_64 thunderbird-10.0.12-3.el6_3.x86_64 and what is available is: # yum list available thunderbird Loaded plugins: presto, refresh-packagekit, rhnplugin Available Packages thunderbird.x86_64 17.0.3-1.el6_3 rhel-x86_64-workstation-6 A snip of the error produced by yum update : Error: Package: thunderbird-lightning-1.2.3-1.el6.x86_64 (@epel) Requires: thunderbird < 11.0 Removing: thunderbird-10.0.12-3.el6_3.x86_64 (@rhel-x86_64-workstation-6) thunderbird = 10.0.12-3.el6_3 Updated By: thunderbird-17.0.3-1.el6_3.x86_64 (rhel-x86_64-workstation-6) thunderbird = 17.0.3-1.el6_3
