Created attachment 703261 [details] Error Description of problem: When trying to browse smb shares in dolphin, it returns the error: "Unable to find any workgroups in your local network. This might be caused by an enabled firewall." I have samba and samba-client installed, I tried turning off firewalld and set selinux permissive. Nothing helps. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): kde-baseapps-4.9.5-1.fc18.x86_64 How reproducible: Every time. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Open Dolphin 2. Select 'Network' from navigation bar on left 3. Select 'Samba Shares' in right pane. Actual results: Right pane is blank with a red error box at top that says: "Unable to find any workgroups in your local network. This might be caused by an enabled firewall." Expected results: See network shares become visible as found. Additional info: I can see the shares on command line (smbclient -L <host>), I can create a shortcut to a share via "Add Network Folder", and I can manually type "smb://<host>/" in Dolphin and see the hosts shares. I have the same issue with another F18 laptop that is running Gnome 3 when trying to browser with Nautilus. The only difference is that I do not see an error as I do in Dolphin, it just shows the workgroup, when I click into the workgroup I never see my hosts. Again, I can use "connect to server" or manually type "smb://<host>/" but cannot browse. It is definitely not firewall or selinux related because I have tested with both off in both machines. Other machines can browse these shares just fine, and smbclient can browse them on these machines.
This message is a reminder that Fedora 18 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 18. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '18'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 18's end of life. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 18 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 18's end of life. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
Having upgraded to Fedora 19 and now Fedora 20 I use Gnome 3.10 now and I can browse smb shares again. I am not sure if the issue was addresses on purpose due to other bug reports or accidentally by some other bug fix, but either way... it works now. ;-)
