The machine is Lenovo X61 notebook.

This is basically saying it can't find the root device.  Boot into the old kernel and check the following:

1) That the grub config file contains a correct entry for 3.8.4-202, containing both the linux and initrd lines and using a similar root= to the previously working kernels.

2) That there is a corresponding initramfs for 3.8.4 in /boot, and it is of similar size to the previous working kernels.

This bug is being closed with INSUFFICIENT_DATA as there has not been a response in 2 weeks. If you are still experiencing this issue, please reopen and attach the relevant data from the latest kernel you are running and any data that might have been requested previously.
