Note: This bug is displayed in read-only format because the product is no longer active in Red Hat Bugzilla.
RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description of problem:

here is part of my kickstat file:

%pre

#!/bin/bash

hds=""
for file in /sys/block/*; do
    case $file in
        *sd?) hds="$hds $(basename $file)" ;;
        *vd?) hds="$hds $(basename $file)" ;;
        *) ;;
    esac
done

set $hds

hds=$(echo $hds | sed  's/!/\//g')
drive1=$(echo $hds | cut -d' ' -f1)

echo "#find for 1 drive /dev/$drive1" > /tmp/part-include
echo "bootloader --driveorder=${drive1} --append=\"elevator=deadline\"" >> /tmp/part-include
dd if=/dev/urandom of=/dev/$drive1 bs=512 count=64
/usr/sbin/parted -s -- /dev/$drive1 mklabel gpt
/usr/sbin/parted -s -- /dev/$drive1 unit MB mkpart primary 1 5
/usr/sbin/parted -s -- /dev/$drive1 set 1 bios_grub on
/usr/sbin/parted -s -- /dev/$drive1 unit MB mkpart primary 5 2000
/usr/sbin/parted -s -- /dev/$drive1 set 2 boot on
/usr/sbin/parted -s -- /dev/$drive1 unit MB mkpart primary 2000 18000
/usr/sbin/parted -s -- /dev/$drive1 unit MB mkpart primary 18000 -0
sleep 2
echo "part biosboot --fstype biosboot --onpart=${drive1}1" >> /tmp/part-include
echo "part / --fstype ext4 --onpart=${drive1}2" >> /tmp/part-include
echo "part pv.os --onpart=${drive1}3" >> /tmp/part-include
echo "part pv.home --onpart=${drive1}4" >> /tmp/part-include

%end

%include /tmp/part-include

it prompt:

Error parsing kickstart config

the following problem occurred on line 6 of the kicktart file:

Specified nonexistent partition vda4 in partition command

alt-F2 to get a shell prompt:

#parted /dev/dev/vda p

it give me four partitions

#ls /dev/vda*

only 3 partion name and no /dev/vda4:

/dev/vda /dev/vda1 /dev/vda2 /dev/vda3

the anaconda does not probe and create device name /dev/vda4

we can reproduce the bug in KVM instance and any other physical server.

the issue only in RHEL 6.4. if we boot with 6.3 pxe image, it works fine.

Comment 4 Peng Yong 2013-03-30 04:30:20 UTC
here is a similar case.

http://comments.gmane.org/gmane.linux.redhat.kickstart.general/7600

and i can't find partprobe command in Anaconda

Comment 6 Samantha N. Bueno 2013-07-02 18:49:33 UTC
Denied due to capacity and lack of customer issue.
