Note: This bug is displayed in read-only format because the product is no longer active in Red Hat Bugzilla.
RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Description Matěj Cepl 2013-03-28 18:32:48 UTC
Description of problem:
While playing a full-scren video on the laptop display (and doing something on the attached large LCD display) Xorg freezes from time to time (no SSH access, and I had to switch it off with a power switch). I've got this /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old with a nice backtrace (I haven't seen anything interesting in dmesg output, and obviously I don't have anything from the frozen state).

Laptop is Lenovo Thinkpad T520 with Samsung SyncMaster 2243 LCD attached.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
xorg-x11-drv-intel-2.20.17-2.el7.x86_64
xorg-x11-server-Xorg-1.13.1-3.el7.x86_64
kernel-3.7.0-0.31.el7.x86_64

How reproducible:
sometimes (like once a week)

Steps to Reproduce:
1.play video full-screen
2.
3.

Actual results:
computer freezes hard

Expected results:
it shouldn't

does this still happen or is it reproducible with later RHEL7 bits?

Yes, regularly. Just play fullscreen video on one monitor and it eventually freezes ... I don't think I have managed to get through one Murdoch Mystery episode without freezing.

Comment 6 Adam Jackson 2014-02-20 18:32:34 UTC
Backtrace is uxa_check_composite -> uxa_picture_prepare_access -> uxa_prepare_access -> drm_intel_gem_bo_map_gtt, so, we're running out of GTT space I think. I don't see any commits to the uxa support in intel post 2.21.15 that would affect this path.

This isn't likely to see a fix for 7.0, moving. In the meantime, do you still see this if you change the driver to SNA?

Section "Device"
    Identifier "intel"
    Driver "intel"
    Option "AccelMethod" "SNA"
EndSection

OK, I cannot reproduce it now anymore. Let’s close this guy, and I’ll file a new if it happens again.
