Ardour 3 is already released and there is no package for it. I created one.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11906328/fedora_pkgs/ardour3.spec spec-file
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11906328/fedora_pkgs/ardour3-3.0-1.x86_64.rpm built x86_64 rpm for Fedora 18
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11906328/fedora_pkgs/ardour-3.0.tar.bz2 sources (not that easy to get from ardour's site)

Is there a way to get it into repositories? It is my very first package and I do not plan to become a contributor (for now) so the best (for me) is if someone can take care of that spec/rpm and get it into repositories.

Reproducible: Always

Thanks, we are working on it. It will most likely be a separate package. Nils, any recent updates?

Comment 2 Nils Philippsen 2013-09-10 12:54:15 UTC
I'll take this. I plan to merge the various spec files with the one I have and submit a package review request shortly.

Comment 3 Nils Philippsen 2013-09-10 13:21:13 UTC
As the result of this is a new source package, changing component to "distribution".

I've opened the package review request in bug #1007099, just in case anyone wants to pick this up :).

Is there any reason to be maintaining the old Ardour 2 alongside the currently developed Ardour3? I can't think of why someone wouldn't switch.

Here's the reasoning I put in the review bug #1007099:

"NB: this is version 3.x of the existing ardour package and supposed to be installable in parallel. We'll keep the old version around because while the new version can open ardour 2.x projects, some information may be lost during import and people should be able to edit their old projects without running afoul of this. Users should use the current version 3.x for new projects."
