Description BenByington84 2013-04-01 19:03:00 UTC
Created attachment 730385 [details]
Output of 'lspci -k'

Description of problem:

I am running Fedora 17 with a wireless card rtl8723. I am currently using kernel 3.8.4-102. The wireless card behaves correctly when I am at home using my personal WPA encrypted network. When I use my campus network, which is not encrypted but does require you to log in on a certain web page in order to access the general net, then I cannot maintain connection. It will initially connect, at which point I can temporarily access web-pages and download files, but then the connection gets interrupted and further attempts to reconnect fail.

I get this problem both using the kernel 3.8.4 alone, and when also using the rtlwifi drivers from compat-drivers 3.9-rc2

Attached will be:

the output of lspci -k
the output of dmesg after a fresh boot (with wireless initially disabled)
the output of dmesg after enabling wireless and having an intially successful connection
the output of dmesg after that connection is interrupted

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

3.8.4

How reproducible:

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot computer
2. Wait for connection to wireless router
3. Open browser and log into campus network
4. Browse net normally for ~3-5 minutes
5. Connection gets lost, and cannot be re-established

Actual results:

Cannot connect to internet

Expected results:

Internet connection should maintain (or at least be able to reconnect after an interruption)

Additional info:

I don't know if it is necessary information, but this wireless card has no problems when connecting to this network when using an unofficial but vendor supplied driver (which no longer compiles after kernel 3.7). The driver being referred to can be found as an answer to the forum question here:

Is this still happening with the 3.9 kernel?

Comment 9 BenByington84 2013-05-30 00:03:55 UTC
No, the issue seems to have resolved itself with the new version. Thanks!
