Description Leslie Satenstein 2013-04-09 00:55:32 UTC
Description of problem:

The latter two selections in anaconda for basic software does not remind the user that no graphical user interface will be installed with this selection. This message could be a footnote Message.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

How reproducible:

Steps to Reproduce:

Actual results:

Expected results:

Additional info:

When the system rebooted after anaconda was completed, there was no graphical user interface. I did a yum group install "Gnome Desktop"; this selection installed Gnome, but Gnome failed to start automatically. (startx was required).
Is the startx requirement another bug to post?

While there is a clear precedent for the installer to behave this way, you should file these kind of requests against the 'anaconda' component.

Changing your default runlevel is described here:
http://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/Fedora/18/html/Installation_Guide/s1-boot-init-shutdown-targets.html

Something like
`ln -s /lib/systemd/system/graphical.target /etc/systemd/system/default.target --force`
should suit.

I am not a Fedora software developer. I am a 7 year use of Fedora and a 25 year hardware and software engineer. I am presenting bugs as an end-user sees them.

The RedHat stipulated rule for reporting bugs is.

If you do not know the application, guess. and provide details. We will do the rest.

And no, it is not a run level problem. It is the fact that the selection omits to say that GUI interface software is not included (no Gnome, Kde, Cinnamon or even Mate.

This bug was raised as a request. The software did not catch fire, but it is really incomplete description of the selected option.

I would say that the interface text was written by the developer who is much too close to the application to understand the end-user's requirements.

I will leave it as you say, not a bug, but a deficiency. And you are wrong.

Doing the group install of "Gnome Desktop", worked partially, I happen to do thorough testing and as it is now, I fail Anaconda as being in need of some additional text, instead of the sparse amount that is presented on the screen.

If you want to bring a deficiency to the attention of the anaconda developers, you will need to file a bug against anaconda, not the installation guide. Reassigning bugs across Products does not work as well as reassigning between Components, so you need to help here.
