Description of problem: Selecting "Use IBus (recommended)" in the Input Method Selector application shows the following error message. Dialog box title: "Failed to switch Input Method" Message: "GDBus.Error:org.gtk.GDBus.UnmappedGError.Quark._imsettings_2derror_2dquark.Code5: Current desktop isn't targeted by Input Method." Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): ibus-1.5.1-3.fc19 ibus-gtk3-1.5.1-3.fc19 How reproducible: always This happens on a fresh Fedora 19 install, using the Alpha RC2 Live ISO. It also happens on my older Fedora 18 installs, but I haven't kept track of what I installed there. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Start the Input Method Selector after logging into Gnome 3. 2. Select "Use IBus (recommended)" 3. There is no step 3. Actual results: The error dialog box described above shows up. Expected results: This should enable ibus, so I can use other input methods, such as pinyin. Additional info: This bug makes Fedora unusable for Chinese users and people who study Chinese. I'm sure other languages' users are also impacted.

This is NOTABUG. as you said indeed this change has been made since f18 and documented in even release notes too. I could improve im-chooser to notice what you should do if you want to get this back into im-chooser though.
Thank you for responding to this! gnome-control-center provides a really nice UI for setting things up, so Fedora is definitely usable. It would be nice if im-chooser gives a more descriptive error message pointing users to gnome-control-center. Once this bug is indexed by Google, I hope it'll help other people figure this out faster. Alternatively, im-chooser could be removed from the set of packages installed by default, and I'd realize that I're supposed to look for another way to set up IMEs. The f18 release notes say im-chooser is deprecated everywhere except for fallback mode (which is gone in Gnome 3.8, as far as I know) and for non-ibus input methods (which I think would require installing custom packages anyway). In any case, thank you for your work! After I set up ibus correctly, it is much snappier than in f17!
