Description of problem: SELinux is preventing /usr/bin/gsf-office-thumbnailer from 'write' accesses on the sock_file socket. ***** Plugin catchall (100. confidence) suggests *************************** If you believe that gsf-office-thumbnailer should be allowed write access on the socket sock_file by default. Then you should report this as a bug. You can generate a local policy module to allow this access. Do allow this access for now by executing: # grep gsf-office-thum /var/log/audit/audit.log | audit2allow -M mypol # semodule -i mypol.pp Additional Information: Source Context unconfined_u:unconfined_r:thumb_t:s0-s0:c0.c1023 Target Context system_u:object_r:nslcd_var_run_t:s0 Target Objects socket [ sock_file ] Source gsf-office-thum Source Path /usr/bin/gsf-office-thumbnailer Port <Unknown> Host (removed) Source RPM Packages libgsf-1.14.24-3.fc18.x86_64 Target RPM Packages Policy RPM selinux-policy-3.11.1-86.fc18.noarch Selinux Enabled True Policy Type targeted Enforcing Mode Enforcing Host Name (removed) Platform Linux (removed) 3.8.5-201.fc18.x86_64 #1 SMP Thu Mar 28 21:01:19 UTC 2013 x86_64 x86_64 Alert Count 1 First Seen 2013-04-09 16:00:50 EDT Last Seen 2013-04-09 16:00:50 EDT Local ID 5085cc82-f571-404c-af39-ea4dd63f3a53 Raw Audit Messages type=AVC msg=audit(1365537650.793:839): avc: denied { write } for pid=23693 comm="gsf-office-thum" name="socket" dev="tmpfs" ino=24365 scontext=unconfined_u:unconfined_r:thumb_t:s0-s0:c0.c1023 tcontext=system_u:object_r:nslcd_var_run_t:s0 tclass=sock_file type=SYSCALL msg=audit(1365537650.793:839): arch=x86_64 syscall=connect success=no exit=EACCES a0=3 a1=7fff0e398750 a2=17 a3=0 items=0 ppid=23635 pid=23693 auid=4000 uid=4000 gid=4000 euid=4000 suid=4000 fsuid=4000 egid=4000 sgid=4000 fsgid=4000 ses=2 tty=(none) comm=gsf-office-thum exe=/usr/bin/gsf-office-thumbnailer subj=unconfined_u:unconfined_r:thumb_t:s0-s0:c0.c1023 key=(null) Hash: gsf-office-thum,thumb_t,nslcd_var_run_t,sock_file,write audit2allow #============= thumb_t ============== allow thumb_t nslcd_var_run_t:sock_file write; audit2allow -R require { type thumb_t; } #============= thumb_t ============== nslcd_stream_connect(thumb_t) Additional info: hashmarkername: setroubleshoot kernel: 3.8.5-201.fc18.x86_64 type: libreport
Seems like something we should dontaudit. Not sure why I would want thumbnails to communicate with. 87b20744232641d4ffe945769585d994ecca7751 dontaudits this in git.
Looks like the socket is due to LDAP-backed getent via nslcd. There's already a boolean for nsswitch.
Yes I don't want random processes used to display pretty icons to be allowed to look at the list of users in a company or any other info that could be gotten from nslcd.
back ported.

This message is a reminder that Fedora 18 is nearing its end of life. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 18. It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '18'. Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 18's end of life. Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not be able to fix it before Fedora 18 is end of life. If you would still like to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora version prior to Fedora 18's end of life. Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
selinux-policy-3.11.1-108.fc18 has been pushed to the Fedora 18 stable repository. If problems still persist, please make note of it in this bug report.
