Description of problem: Booting from USB using the live image I can not get into gdm. It says GDM has started in the log, but I can never see it, only the startup log. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): Alpha RC2 How reproducible: Always on the two computers I tested with.
How did you write your USB stick? Can you please attach at least journalctl -a , Xorg.0.log and /var/log/gdm* ?
livecd-iso-to-disk --format --reset-mbr --efi Fedora-Live-Desktop-x86_64-19-Alpha-1.iso /dev/sdb Can you write to this type of live usb? I mounted everything but I couldn't find the files I wrote....
I'm hitting the same issue on Asus U38N (AMD A8-4555 with 1920x1080 panel) and RC3 alpha. In fact, it happens with both LiveCD and DVD. with TC6 build I was able to proceed to the graphical screens both in LiveCD and DVD only if I added 'nomodeset video=1920x1080-32'. In RC3 alpha no matter what I do, I'm unable to see graphical screen.
We still need logs (ideally from both of you, to determine if this is even the same bug).
I can only provide them for TC6 build nomodeset, if that would help.
Any pointers on actually saving the logs? Anyway for the Asus U38N you might be hitting the problems written down here: http://lists.fedoraproject.org/pipermail/devel/2013-March/180019.html
Black screen behavior does not depend for me on the way how devices are initialized -- through Windows 8-initiated reboot or via BIOS/UEFI only. Unless I disable KMS, there is black screen.
"Any pointers on actually saving the logs?" Use another USB stick?
Do I have to mount that and everything? Anyway, managed to get journalctl done on one computer, then it crashed....

Created attachment 736493 [details] journalctl -a output for U38N run with RC3 alpha I was able to get graphical screen working with KMS mode on RC3 alpha by putting machine into sleep and waking it up. Here is journalctl -a output.

Btw, after putting machine to sleep and restoring it, I switched to the console and Xorg has crashed, crashing whole anaconda.
This is sounding like a graphics issue, in your case, nothing much to do with anaconda. For the future, please don't attach compressed archives of logs. It is much, much more convenient if you attach each log file separately in raw text format.
OK, yup, there's an X backtrace in /tmp/X.log: [ 155.767] (EE) Backtrace: [ 155.796] (EE) 0: Xorg (OsLookupColor+0x129) [0x46e569] [ 155.799] (EE) 1: /lib64/libpthread.so.0 (__restore_rt+0x0) [0x7fc2229e6f9f] [ 155.804] (EE) 2: Xorg (mieqProcessDeviceEvent+0x125) [0x576135] [ 155.805] (EE) 3: Xorg (mieqProcessInputEvents+0xf7) [0x5762f7] [ 155.806] (EE) 4: Xorg (ProcessInputEvents+0x9) [0x485a39] [ 155.807] (EE) 5: Xorg (xf86Wakeup+0x4b5) [0x486405] [ 155.808] (EE) 6: Xorg (WakeupHandler+0x6d) [0x43b03d] [ 155.809] (EE) 7: Xorg (WaitForSomething+0x1af) [0x46616f] [ 155.810] (EE) 8: Xorg (SendErrorToClient+0xe1) [0x436b01] [ 155.812] (EE) 9: Xorg (_init+0x3aad) [0x429abd] [ 155.854] (EE) 10: /lib64/libc.so.6 (__libc_start_main+0xf5) [0x7fc221621b75] [ 155.856] (EE) 11: Xorg (_start+0x29) [0x42671d] [ 155.858] (EE) 12: ? (?+0x29) [0x29] Re-assigning to xorg-x11-drv-ati, I'll see if there are any dupes. Can you follow https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/How_to_debug_Xorg_problems as far as possible, using the live image? Should be easier to get logs out of the live image.
Created attachment 736741 [details] journalctl -a output for U38N run with RC4 alpha Took new attempt with RC4. RC4 alpha LiveCD boots with black screen. After forcing the laptop to sleep and waking it up I can get into graphical session and Xorg did not crash.
Created attachment 736742 [details] Xorg.0.log from U38N when running RC4 alpha Here is Xorg.0.log from LiveCD session on U38N. Note both kernel (in journalctl output) and Xorg are complaining about EDID. This may be red herring but may be related to the black screen issue.

Tried live image 20130419. Everything crashed when I first got into the virtual terminal (ctrl-F2) and then tried to go back (ctrl-F1).
Tried same live image on nVidia graphics machine, everything worked great.

Can get to the desktop on the acer aspire now, but the iMac seems stuck on starting network manager.
Can you file a new bug for that? And testing with Beta TC2 would be great (in the usual place for TCs/RCs). Thanks!
What, you do not read all bug reports coming in? :) Anyway, did that, here is the bug: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=958787
well I try, but the odd one slips through ;)
