Description Joe Brockmeier 2013-04-23 22:19:41 UTC
Description of problem: Trying to install Fedora 19 under VMware Fusion. Boots OK, but immediately crashes when clicking the "install to hard drive" icon.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

19 Alpha

How reproducible:

Every time.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot into the desktop
2. Click "Install" icon
3. Crash

Actual results:

Crash

Expected results:

Expected the installer to come up and allow me to install the distribution....

Additional info:

Fedora 17 and 18 work fine on VMware Fusion. Not sure if it's a KDE Live CD bug (I am using KDE but did not install from KDE live CD previously) or Anaconda, or something else.

Attaching logs.

Can you please check in /tmp for an anaconda-tb-* file and if you see one, attach it to this bug report? Thanks.

Anaconda Log file

Anaconda log from the bug report.

Comment 3 Joe Brockmeier 2013-04-24 14:20:32 UTC
Hi Chris,

There wasn't an anaconda-tb* file, but there was an anaconda.log. Does that help? If not, I can try again and see if that file exists on another go around.

Comment 4 Chris Lumens 2013-04-24 14:32:00 UTC
No, I don't really see anything obvious in there. What's the nature of the crash you are noticing? You could also try firing up a terminal from within the live environment, running /usr/bin/liveinst, and seeing if more useful error messages are printed there.

Comment 5 Joe Brockmeier 2013-04-24 14:33:28 UTC
It just drops to the login screen, no real warning or error messages. I'll give that a shot and see what I can find. Thanks!

Comment 6 Chris Lumens 2013-04-26 18:00:10 UTC
One more idea - can you grab /tmp/X.log as well?

Comment 7 Joe Brockmeier 2013-04-27 13:44:24 UTC
Hi Chris,

OK, so even trying to start Konsole by right-clicking causes a crash and restart to the login screen. There's no X.log under /tmp, but I did grab the .xsession-errors file from the liveuser's home directory. It seems to have a little info on why the session crashed, so maybe that will help?

xsession-errors file from Fedora 19 KDE Live CD alpha

xsession-errors file.

Comment 9 Chris Lumens 2013-04-29 20:02:19 UTC
Comment 7 makes it sound like something fundamental is very screwed up. Did you verify your media before attempting to install? Bad downloads/burns can often explain these weird problems. There could also be something specific to KDE that is the problem here, but I do not know what it would be. Reassigning.

Comment 10 Kevin Kofler 2013-04-29 22:01:47 UTC
X.Org X11 is crashing, most likely a graphics driver bug. The file /var/log/Xorg.0.log (that's where it should be located in a live CD/DVD session, just like on an installed system, not /tmp/X.log) might have more information.

Possibly related to Bug 956325

Comment 12 Adam Williamson 2013-05-02 06:42:00 UTC
https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2013-7181/xorg-x11-drv-vmware-13.0.1-1.fc19 might well fix this. I'll try and pull it into the next TC, but if you can think of a way to test in the meantime, please do, and add karma to the update!

Comment 13 Adam Williamson 2013-05-04 00:36:32 UTC
TC3 should have this fix, and we can verify that the images now work ok on vmware.

Comment 14 Adam Williamson 2013-05-04 16:26:58 UTC
Pretty sure this and 956325 were the same. Beta TC3 should work if you try that.
