Thanks for a bug report. Since evolution 3.6.0 (Fedora 17) the password prompt is done through gcr (it's package name), which makes password prompts system modal under gnome-shell. Thus it's not a bug as such, unless I misunderstood your claim.

Can you still enter the password and continue within the password prompt?

Comment 2 Dean Hunter 2013-04-30 13:09:59 UTC
I can enter the password, but if I get it wrong there seems to be a lengthy (30 to 45 seconds) time-out period, at least for POP3 accounts, when nothing works.

Why is this particular password prompt "system modal"?

Comment 3 Milan Crha 2013-04-30 15:22:19 UTC
Thanks for the update. I guess the delay is caused by the server, probably to avoid too often incorrect password attach or such, who knows.

I also do not know why gcr developers decided to create the password prompt as a system modal dialog in gnome-shell environment, probably to let a user know about the password prompt and to force him/her to pay attention to it. The other thing is that evolution keeps the password prompt opened until it's verified that the password works properly, which for you takes quite long to realize the password doesn't work. There is filled a bug report for this, at [1]. I'd move there, because it's not Fedora specific.

But would it be possible to not use a system modal dialog.

The, admitedly rather sketchy, documentation of gcr seems to have both a system modal and normal prompt (https://developer.gnome.org/gcr/3.10/)

I want to apologize, this is inaccurate, the decision wasn't made by gcr developers, it's gnome-shell's "feature" to provide system modal password prompts. The module is named 'keyring', and it resides at '/usr/share/gnome-shell/js/ui/components/keyring.js'. See [1] for more detailed information.

Comment 7 Fedora End Of Life 2015-01-09 18:00:15 UTC
This message is a notice that Fedora 19 is now at end of life. Fedora
has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 19. It is
Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no
longer maintained. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now this bug will
be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '19'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 19 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 8 Fedora End Of Life 2015-02-17 15:06:38 UTC
Fedora 19 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2015-01-06. Fedora 19 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
