[PATCH] Move recordmydesktop from abrt-desktop's dep chain to comps (4.24 KB, text/plain)

no flags Details

Description Jiri Moskovcak 2013-05-03 15:09:12 UTC
I'm going to remove the dependency from libreport, to save some space on liveCD, but I would like to see it installed by default as a part of desktop group.

+++ This bug was initially created as a clone of Bug #958979 +++

libreport-gtk has recently started depending on recordmydesktop. Compared to F18, this now brings in a number of new deps to the F19 Desktop Live media, including another audio server, jack-audio-connection-kit.

GNOME Shell has built-in screen recording support and recordmydesktop pretty much duplicates that functionality. We are a bit space constrained on the live media, so it would be nice to get rid of extra deps that most users don't need, if possible.

When jmoskovc/adamw/elad661/me discussed this on IRC, it was pointed out that there have been complaints about the new recordmydesktop dep on fedoraforum.org. In the light of this, it might be best to make recordmydesktop a soft dep, as in install it by default through comps, but not have a hard Requires: recordmydesktop in libreport-gtk. Or perhaps install it on-demand through PackageḰit when someone actually needs to record the screen.

Well, the LiveCD pulls from the default desktop installation, so there would need to be some more work done over just putting it in comps (would need excluded in the live image).

Is this all b/c there's not an API for the shell screen recorder? It would seem simplest to fix that first.

[PATCH] Move recordmydesktop from abrt-desktop's dep chain to comps

Attaching a patch that does something close to to what you asked for, but not exactly -- see the description in the patch header. If it looks fine to you, I can push it to comps.

P.S. Why aren't the package lists in comps sorted alphabetically?

Kalev - that patch can work, modulo the jack dep that people may still complain about. But that can still be fixed in the kickstart. As for sorting... mostly just haven't run it through the xslt file to do so recently.

Many discussions at once!

 1) The jack dep -- yeah, this will need addressing separately, moving the recordmydesktop dep from libreport's requires to comps doesn't fix it. Apparently the jack dep was added a few years back as a response to a bug report, https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=554292 . Perhaps we could split up jack-libs or something, to make sure it doesn't pull in the whole daemon package.

 2) Sorted comps -- would be awesome to have a server side git hook that rejects malformed comps (DTD check) and non-sorted comps. However, the dtd file in the comps repo seems quite out of the date, any idea if there's a newer version available somewhere?

 3) The patch here -- Jiri are you fine with just leaving recordmydesktop out of the gnome-desktop group for now, like the proposed patch does? On the assumption that we get the recording dbus api for gnome-shell soonish? (https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=696247)
