Screenshot_1 - no belgian keyboard during Fedora installation

Description of problem:
The belgian keyboard doesn't exist anymore during Fedora installation: see screenshot_1 (nothing between belarus and bengali).
Actually, searching for "belgian" shows some "flemish (belgian)" keyboards (see screenshot_2) but no "normal belgian". By the way, if there are "flemish" keyboards, there must also be "walloon" ones I guess...

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Installation of Fedora 19 BETA using liveCD

How reproducible:
Always

Actual results:
No "begian keyboard"

Expected results:
"begian keyboard" must exist of course !!

Comment 2 Vratislav Podzimek 2013-05-31 07:57:40 UTC
The 'Dutch; Flemish (Belgian)' keyboard layout is the 'be' layout shown with the first language (Dutch; Flemish) it is used by. I'm closing this as WORKSFORME, because the belgian keyboard is available and with the way the keyboard layouts are gathered and handled in the Anaconda now, it is basically impossible to change the name it is shown with. It will be fixed with a rewrite/redesign of the keyboard configuration screen (spoke).

Thanks for your answer. However I'm not very satisfied with the closure of this bug:

OK, now I know I have to choose the Flemish keyboard to get the Belgian keyboard. Not very intuitive at all :-( Fedora has probably the worst installer design ever:
- it doesn't offer the same user experience as the Gnome UI (that has the belgian layout)
- I don't know a lot of other Linux distibutions, but I have never seen that before: belgian layout is named "belgian" layout of course
- Windows also has belgian layout
- ...

There is not patch possible to replace "Dutch" by "Belgian" ? Belgian layout is probably not the only problem: I guess there is a problem for every country with several languages, no ?
If this cannot be changed in anaconda, this means there a big problem (bug) in anaconda design !!

When ?

A general answer -- feel free to send patches.

The layout is named "Belgian" in the Anaconda. We just prepend the language name to each layout so that they can be easily sorted and filtered. And since it's practically impossible to find out which language is "the right one" for a layout, we use the one that emerges first in the iteration over all available layouts.

Nobody thinks and says that the design is perfect. The new, hopefully better, desing of the keyboard configuration screen [1] that will group layouts by languages (and will thus allow listing one layout multiple times under different languages) is planned as a future enhancement together with some changes in language handling and guessing the right keyboard layout for the chosen language.

Probably Fedora 20.

Thanks for your explanations.
I'm wondering: is it really helpful to prepend with the language ?
Concerning Belgian for instance layout certainly not: 'french (Belgian)' 'dutch (Belgian)' 'german (Belgian)' is strange and even confusing if you don't know it's the same. While 'Belgian' is obvious.
-Actually, I think it is a bad idea when the layout name is not also a language name (Belgian and many others).
-It is also strange otherwise ('french (France)' 'english (US)' ... instead of simply 'France' and 'US').
So I have the impression it would be clearer, less confusing if just the layout name is indicated.
It all comes from the fact I'm not conviced that the keyboard layout must be linked with the language... But maybe I'm wrong...

Anyway, the new keyboard configuration screen seems already better. I know it's just a mockup, but I'll already make the remark: in the right part, remove the language name ('English' in the screenshot) since the language has been selected in the left part. It will clean the right view ;-)

It's there mainly to facilitate sorting, filtering and generally searching the right layout.

Good point, thanks!
