Description Andre Gompel 2013-07-16 17:11:23 UTC
Description of problem:
After an update to the latest Kernel ((Schroedinger), the Broadcom Wireless does not work anymore.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
Kernel, 3.9.9-302.fc19.x86_64
akmods, and kmod-wl are installed.

How reproducible:
Solid

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Use an HP notebook ProBook 6475B, with AMD A10 CPU, and Wireless chip as follows: (from lshw):

    product: BCM43228 802.11a/b/g/n
    vendor: Broadcom Corporation

2. Updated (yum update),
3.

Actual results:
    No more wireless.

Expected results:

Additional info:
The Broadcom STA Driver is "kernel" now open source, it could, and should be part of the normal Fedora Install, and updates for this to work seamlessly.
To have this as a module, very much like the Atheros Wi-Fi drivers seems like the right way to go.

kmod-wl is not part of the upstream kernel. It is not an open source driver. Because of the way packaging works, you will need to update the kmod-wl package when/if it gets updates at wherever you got the package.

I would suggest that you switch to the brcmsmac driver, but Broadcom has not seen fit to support the 43228 with that driver.
