RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.

Comment 27 Lingfei Kong 2013-10-14 04:38:57 UTC
I have reproduced this bug and the results is the same with Comment 15.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Download the SYSTEM attachment: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/attachment.cgi?id=777019

2. Install debuginfo packages(Get the packages from https://brewweb.devel.redhat.com)
#rpm -ivh readline-debuginfo-6.0-4.el6.x86_64.rpm
#rpm -ivh ncurses-debuginfo-5.7-3.20090208.el6.x86_64.rpm
#rpm -ivh glibc-debuginfo-common-2.12-1.107.el6.x86_64.rpm
#rpm -ivh glibc-debuginfo-2.12-1.107.el6.x86_64.rpm
#rpm -ivh hivex-debuginfo-1.3.3-4.2.el6.x86_64.rpm

3. Run the following commands:
#hivexsh -w SYSTEM
Welcome to hivexsh, the hivex interactive shell for examining
Windows Registry binary hive files.

Type: 'help' for help summary
 'quit' to quit the shell

SYSTEM\> cd \ControlSet001\Control\CriticalDeviceDatabase

SYSTEM\ControlSet001\Control\CriticalDeviceDatabase> add pci#ven_1af4&dev_1001&subsys_00000000
hivexsh: hivex.c:2416: hivex_node_add_child: Assertion `old_offs != 0' failed.

4. hivexsh segfault and generated a core file, The stack trace is:

Comment 28 Richard W.M. Jones 2014-05-20 12:35:50 UTC
Let's not do this. It's a 20 part patch series to fix this
properly, and that's too dangerous for hivex in RHEL 6. (I
would be happier with a rebase actually).

Note this bug is fixed properly in RHEL 7 GA. The customer
has a hotfix.
