bug demonstration video

Description of problem:
See the attached video. The VM window size is not remembered correctly. Its height is not remembered at all, it always appears with a default height. The width is remembered, but if the width is larger than approximately half of the screen, the window is maximized on start instead.

Please remember the window size and window state (normal/maximized). Restore its size and state correctly on window open.

I'm using SPICE and QXL.

How reproducible:
always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. open and close the VM window, changing its size between the attempts

Comment 1 Cole Robinson 2013-09-01 17:04:42 UTC
Thanks for the video, but I can't reproduce either of the confusing behaviors with a fully updated F19. And in fact virt-manager doesn't do anything with changing the window size when you reopen a window, since we just hide/unhide it, all the attributes should be remembered.

If you run virt-manager --debug, are there any errors on the console when reproducing?

Any non-default gnome extensions or window manager tweaks that you've installed which could be the culprit?

Comment 2 Kamil Páral 2013-09-03 12:51:28 UTC
I have found out that this is a problem of gnome-shell. Reported here with all details:

Changing component.

Comment 3 Fedora End Of Life 2015-01-09 19:20:13 UTC
This message is a notice that Fedora 19 is now at end of life. Fedora
has stopped maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 19. It is
Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no
longer maintained. Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now this bug will
be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version' of '19'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 19 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 4 Kamil Páral 2015-01-13 15:17:51 UTC
Still a problem in Fedora 21. Updated upstream report.

This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 26 development cycle.
Changing version to '26'.
