Note: This bug is displayed in read-only format because
the product is no longer active in Red Hat Bugzilla.
RHEL Engineering is moving the tracking of its product development work on RHEL 6 through RHEL 9 to Red Hat Jira (issues.redhat.com). If you're a Red Hat customer, please continue to file support cases via the Red Hat customer portal. If you're not, please head to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira and file new tickets here. Individual Bugzilla bugs in the statuses "NEW", "ASSIGNED", and "POST" are being migrated throughout September 2023. Bugs of Red Hat partners with an assigned Engineering Partner Manager (EPM) are migrated in late September as per pre-agreed dates. Bugs against components "kernel", "kernel-rt", and "kpatch" are only migrated if still in "NEW" or "ASSIGNED". If you cannot log in to RH Jira, please consult article #7032570. That failing, please send an e-mail to the RH Jira admins at rh-issues@redhat.com to troubleshoot your issue as a user management inquiry. The email creates a ServiceNow ticket with Red Hat. Individual Bugzilla bugs that are migrated will be moved to status "CLOSED", resolution "MIGRATED", and set with "MigratedToJIRA" in "Keywords". The link to the successor Jira issue will be found under "Links", have a little "two-footprint" icon next to it, and direct you to the "RHEL project" in Red Hat Jira (issue links are of type "https://issues.redhat.com/browse/RHEL-XXXX", where "X" is a digit). This same link will be available in a blue banner at the top of the page informing you that that bug has been migrated.
Description of problem:
I've just did a network install from http://somethink...
After booting the system and trying to install some handy programs, yum complains that it has no repositories available.
Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
recent nightly
How reproducible:
always?
Steps to Reproduce:
1. do a network install - during installation, fill in your_local_RHEL_copy_URL
2. reboot
3. yum install mc
Actual results:
This system is not registered to Red Hat Subscription Management. You can use subscription-manager to register.
There are no enabled repos.
Run "yum repolist all" to see the repos you have.
You can enable repos with yum-config-manager --enable <repo>
Expected results:
(yum installs mc from the same source as the one used for system installation)
Additional info:
oh, and in addition, "yum-config-manager" is not installed ... really funny :-)
(In reply to David Shea from comment #2)
> RHEL 6 has the same behavior
well ... things can change, we have brand new installer rewrite, why not to include this?
was a change proposed/discussed/rejected?
(sorry for reopening if it was)
would that be possible to have the repository config saved under /etc/yum.repos.d/ having the repository disabled by default so that nothing changes at the first sight?
Karel,
The request is valid, but software delivery for RHEL is much more complicated and involved in terms of company policy and such. I want to keep this bug open and discuss possibilities during RHEL 7.1.
We have bug 1119867 which proposes adding a --install switch to the ks repo command. This limits it to addon repos and defaults to the current behavior so I think it's a good idea.
