Description Yaniv Lavi 2015-02-02 07:11:02 UTC
Description of problem:
On first login of any admin user a pop-up box should appear with link to wiki describing backup options.

There should be two buttons as selectable options:
- Yes, I have have reviewed backup options.
- Later, remind me to review backup options later.

If yes is selected, it would be nice if it allow user to set the interval in which to check last successful backup date, since it may be in a interval larger than 3 days (the way to configure this should be described anyway in BZ #1188121).

If 'Later' is selected:
- User will be prompt that not backing up the engine has consequences on possible downtime in cases of corruption.
- The user will receive the pop-up on next login and also get alerts on the audit log about backup monitoring.
- Once one admin user selects 'Yes', the pop-up will not display for any of the admin users.

This needs to be carefully designed, as it is not only for backup awereness. This requires a notification mechanism in the UI, which, afaik, not gonna be part of 3.6.0. In addition, using "remind me later" is also something to design properly, and that's a concept we don't even have.... should it be per user? per system? sounds to me like the setup process should give some indication about that, and not the webadmin.

I suggest to push to 4.0, or to close.

Einav?

No true, this is a pop-up prompt not a notification.

'Remind me later' will need to pop-up again in the UI in the next login of a new session.

For every admin user until someone answers the prompt.

We need this to be very visual and un-avoidable and setup messages will not be enough.

Not a option, since this is a very sensitive and user facing topic, let's find a way to include this in 3.6.

may not be trivial, adding the UserExperience keyword - will need some discussions IMO.

Comment 4 Oved Ourfali 2015-04-07 13:55:58 UTC
I think this RFE is totally a UX feature.
We don't have such mechanisms, as described in Comment #1.
I'm moving this to UX whiteboard, for Einav to consider.

Comment 5 Yaniv Lavi 2015-06-09 16:08:11 UTC
Rescoping this to also show warnings on certificates expiration, critical compatibility issues and other important info and best practices.

Comment 6 Red Hat Bugzilla Rules Engine 2015-10-19 10:51:19 UTC
Target release should be placed once a package build is known to fix a issue. Since this bug is not modified, the target version has been reset. Please use target milestone to plan a fix for a oVirt release.

Comment 7 Oved Ourfali 2016-03-03 06:42:49 UTC
If relevant, please re-open, and push to ovirt-future.

Comment 8 Oved Ourfali 2017-05-15 12:11:05 UTC
Closing this as wontfix.
I don't see us prioritizing this anytime soon.

As for backup awareness, we have the alerts for that, to increase the admin knowledge of the need to backup.
