Description Benjamin Schmaus 2016-06-13 17:47:35 UTC
Description of problem:

What is the procedure to backup and restore the overcloud for the following 2 use cases:

1. They want backup/restore of the overcloud controllers should all three fall off the face of the earth. Basically to restore the overcloud from scratch. Note customer is not interested in a re-deploy in this scenario but a restore of all DB values and configuration items on the 3 controllers.

2. In addition they want replacement of any controller when one fails with another controller with the same config (host name, IP, etc). Customer wants to be able to restore a controller to the state it was in within a 24 hour period of the outage. Must maintain same IP and hostname.

A key question/clarification here is whether it is assumed *only* the controllers have been lost.

i.e. is the scenario that we have workloads and data on compute and storage nodes, but we've lost access to those because the control plane is gone?

Or are we talking about a situation where the entire cloud is gone and we're attempting to restore tenant workloads and data from backup?

Assigning to Martin for review.

I see two separate RFE's here. Shouldn't this be two separate BZs?
