xmms-1.2.10-16 from development installed on FC5 t1 looks like attached screenshot.

Fixed in the latest build in Extras

This bug is still with us as of FC5test3 and lastest rawhide updates.

Moving to extras. xmms is no longer packaged in core

Since similar symptoms are seen by a few users of Audacity, it smells
a bit like there might be a hostile fonts package (or configuration setting)
out there somewhere. Can you attach "rpm -qa --last > file.txt"?

I think you are right Michael, must have been a conflict, I am using a clean
system (fresh install) and the problem has gone so I now cannot reproduce. Which
I guess means we can close ?
