To clarify a bit more about "some others", what exactly packages do you need to build Chromium? Is it only needed for the build or required at the runtime too?

Comment 3 Akira TAGOH 2022-05-17 08:44:35 UTC
Okay, I found this in chromium.spec:
BuildRequires:	google-noto-sans-symbols2-fonts

the other font package I noticed was missing is google-noto-sans-symbols-vf-fonts, but only google-noto-sans-symbols2-fonts is missing for the purpose of building Chromium. vf-fonts is still missing but I see symbols2-fonts in -3 (presumably vf is in -4?). Thanks!

Can you elaborate more why those "others" are needed, what happens if it is missing, whether there are any substitute fonts in rhel9 so far or not?
Actually this has almost done. so do you want to file another bug with it if you like?

Uploaded the list of all missing fonts. Is there a reason why we don't just ship all the fonts? some are curious, e.g. for CJK, only JP is shipped, not KR, SC (simplified Chinese) and TC (traditional Chinese). And the Sans Mono for CJK is all missing, ditto Serif CJK except for Serif-CJK-TTC.

I can open another bug if that's easier, another usecase (not Chromium) we have internally is we use these fonts for some file conversions

Strictly speaking, Noto CJK fonts isn't a part of google-noto-fonts though, they have different reason; Noto CJK fonts which has those JP, KR, SC, and TC in the package name is actually duplicate. google-noto-*-cjk-ttc-fonts covers them, including Mono.
In that sense, we should drop JP there.
