Please branch and build python-importlib-metadata in epel9

Comment 1 Lumír Balhar 2022-05-18 11:34:35 UTC
Hello. I'm not interested in epel packages. Do you want to maintain the epel9 branch of this package?

Comment 2 Frank Crawford 2022-05-18 11:37:47 UTC
Okay, as I suspect I'll need it in future for some other items, I'll see what I can do for it.

Comment 3 Lumír Balhar 2022-05-18 11:41:18 UTC
Branch has been requested: https://pagure.io/releng/fedora-scm-requests/issue/44485

Comment 4 Frank Crawford 2022-05-18 11:43:16 UTC
Thanks, I saw that it now seems to exist, so I will try and bring up a version over the weekend.

Comment 5 Lumír Balhar 2022-05-18 15:21:21 UTC
What is your FAS username?

frankcrawford, but you already gave me access previously, as I was looking at building python-importlib-metadata for EPEL7, but have currently dropped that, due to the likely lifespan for such an update.

On the other hand I probably will need it in EPEL9 at some point, so hence I'm willing to take on the work.

Ahh, while I have commit access, I don't look to have permissions to create a new branch in Pagure. Can you run:

git checkout -b epel9 && git push -u origin epel9

to create the new branch for me to then access.

Comment 8 Frank Crawford 2022-05-21 13:29:08 UTC
Ah, this will need pyfakefs built in EPEL9.

Requested as BZ 2088900

Done. I wasn't able to do it until I've deactivated a hook preventing the creation of new branches by git push.

Comment 10 Jonathan Wright 2022-08-11 23:59:21 UTC
This still has not been built. If you'll allow me commit access (jonathanspw) I'll get this done.

I need it for 2117798 in EPEL9.

Comment 11 Frank Crawford 2022-08-14 08:48:35 UTC
Well, I see that pyfakefs has just been submitted for EPEL9, so I should have a chance to do something about it shortly.

Nothing could really have been done before pyfakefs was pushed.

Comment 12 Frank Crawford 2022-08-23 11:48:30 UTC
Grrr, found I firstly have to drop back to importlib_metadata-4.6.3 and that is blocked by python-zipp.

Have requested permission to build this for EPEL9.

FEDORA-EPEL-2022-05fd63546d has been submitted as an update to Fedora EPEL 9. https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-EPEL-2022-05fd63546d

Frank, Tom Callaway sent me a request to build importlib-metadata for EPEL 7 because Chromium version 104 needs it. Would you reconsider it knowing that the package would be useful there?

Lumir, I'll take another look at it, although it is even trickier there, as it depends on finding a version that is suitable for that version of Python.

Comment 16 Frank Crawford 2022-08-28 09:45:20 UTC
P.S. He should raise a new ticket for it.

Comment 17 Frank Crawford 2022-08-29 08:36:09 UTC

Can you request a EPEL7 branch for python-zipp, as I don't have permission to do so.

There is already a EPEL7 brance for python-importlib-metadata.
